Tom was born in Drexel Hill, PA to Thomas F. and Lillian M. Houlahan on February 6, 1968. He graduated from LaSalle College High School in 1986 and proceeded to study Architecture at his beloved Penn State University, on the State College main campus. A semester abroad in Florence, Italy was one of his great life experiences. He lived most recently in the Hershey's Mill community with his mother.
Always a hard worker, Tom began bussing tables at Blue Bell Country Club near his childhood home when he was a high school student. After college he joined the wait staff at Manufacturer's Golf and Country Club in Ft. Washington, PA. When the family moved to West Chester in 2005 he joined the serving staff at Hershey's Mill Golf Club. He was a beloved employee at both clubs until his passing. Serving others was Tom's life's work, and his customers and family members alike greatly appreciated his dedication and care.
Tom loved sports. As a youth he played soccer, little league, and basketball. In high school he ran long-distance track and was on the bowling team, a hobby he revived on the Hershey's Mill team. He followed professional sports as well, particularly through many years of Fantasy Football league play. His greatest sports passion was for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Tom also loved animals. He doted on many pets throughout the years: Spooky the black cat, Terrence "Duffy" MacDuff - a mutt terrier, large beagle Rocco, and most recently brother cats Clark and Joey, who were with him for almost 20 years.
Thomas K. was preceded in death by his father Thomas F. in 2003. He is survived by his loving mother Lillian, sisters Kathleen Houlahan and Joanne (Houlahan) Selinski, brother-in-law Edward Selinski and family. Tom was the youngest of ten first-cousins, preceded in death by Robert Ferreri and Jeanne Gillis.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11am on Monday, November 20th at Alleva Funeral Home in Paoli, PA, followed by a reception. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and photos on their website www.allevafuneralhome.com for the Houlahan family.
For those wishing to make a donation in Tom's memory, his pet charities (pun intended) were the World Wildlife Fund and the ASPCA.
