Thomas Louis Lengel

In loving memory of Thomas Lengel Sr, who left this world on July 6, 2026, at the age of 81. Born in Chester County Hospital, West Chester, on November 9, 1944, Tom lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community. His journey began under the loving guidance of his late parents, Joseph and Audrey Lengel, and alongside his siblings, Susie, Pat and Joseph, who have all predeceased him. Today, we find solace in knowing they are reunited.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa “Terry”, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story began on February 14, 1971, and together they built a beautiful life in West Chester, raising their three sons, Thomas Jr, Christopher, and Patrick, within the warmth of their family home. Tom’s legacy lives on through his devoted sons, their loving wives Siobhan, Shannon and Pam, and his cherished grandsons Connor, Cameron, Kane, Finley, Thomas III and John, and precious granddaughter Marley Jane. He is remembered by his brother Mike and his wife Pat. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Patsy Lipko, and Adrienne Kane, as well as brother-in-law Rick Kane and his wife Susan, brother-in-law Dave Butler, as well as several nieces and nephews who all adored him.

A proud graduate of Great Valley High School in 1964, Tom went on to serve his country with honor as a military policeman in the US Army from1967-1971, including a tour in Germany and stateside at Fort Dix. Following his honorable discharge, Tom dedicated over five decades to his career as a logistics specialist at Armstrong, where his commitment and work ethic were admired by all who knew him. His commitment to his family was never overshadowed. He was an ardent supporter of his sons, attending their games with pride. A true Philadelphia sports fan, Tom was a longtime season ticket holder for the Eagles and loved watching the Phillies, NASCAR races and golf on Sundays.

In later years, Tom found immense joy in the activities of his grandchildren. Whether attending their concerts, karate tournaments, sporting events, or supporting their boy scout endeavors, he was a constant presence. He relished every moment as an honorary member of the Kane family, creating cherished memories in the Poconos, down the shore, or gathered in someone’s home.

Known for his sense of humor and storytelling, Tom made his home a haven for neighborhood children, always ensuring everyone felt welcome. His love for Christmas was legendary. He took immense pride in assembling his Christmas Village and decorated a beautiful tree. He delighted in making sure everyone’s Christmas wish list was fulfilled.

Tom’s life was a testament to resilience and gratitude, especially following a heart transplant at University of Pennsylvania in 1997 that gifted him nearly three more decades with his family. This second chance allowed him to witness his family’s milestones, a gift he cherished deeply.

A service to honor Tom’s life will be held on July 14, 2026, at St. Agnes Church, 233 West Gay Street, West Chester, PA. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 – 11 am with mass to follow and a graveside committal at Calvary Cemetery in Villanova PA.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Chester County Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for their exceptional care and support in Tom’s final weeks.
