Philip’s earliest education was attained at the CMS High School, Kumplampoika and thereafter in 1956 went to the Catholicate College in Pathanamthitta, Kerala State, India.
Endowed with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education degree, he entered government service and served as a teacher for 5 years teaching mathematics and physics.
In 1959 Philip married Aleyamma of the Chelleathu family in Kumbanad. They went on to live together for over 60 years.
They had 2 daughters – Sheila and Jenny who grew to be a pharmacist and physician respectively.
In his wife’s household he was well loved and became an older brother and a father figure to his 5 younger sister-in-laws.
In 1963 Philip went overseas and continued to work as a teacher in Borneo, Malaysia. From 1966 to 1991 he was mainly based in West Africa – Sierra Leone, Nigeria and The Gambia.
For a brief year he taught in Uruguay, South America in 1970. During those years Philip played lawn tennis competitively and was very active in the community.
From 1992 to 2000, Philip was back in his home country and worked as Principal at a local school – Mount Zion Residential School, Kadammanitta, Kerala State, India. In the year 2000, Philip and Aleyamma migrated to the United States to be close to their daughters. He worked in various places and finally retired from QVC in 2010.
For the last 10 years, Philip spent a lot of time with family. He devoted a lot of time to prayer, meditation and studying the scriptures.
He was an active member of the local church community and was much sought out for his wisdom and gentle counsel.
On Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11th 2019 around 5:10pm Philip transitioned into his heavenly abode. He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, their spouses and 4 grandchildren.
