OBITUARY

William J. Fells

January 17, 1939November 21, 2021

William J. Fells, age 82, of Broomall PA, passed away at home Sunday November 21, 2021, surrounded by the love of his wife of 56 years, Kathleen (nee Feathers) Fells.

William was born on January 17, 1939, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Margaret and William Fells. William, “Bill” was the brother of Ella (Donald) Hawke and the father of 4 children, the late Amy Fells, Dawn Fells, Billy (Megan) Fells, Brad (Earl) Hand-Fells, and lovingly known as “Poppie” to his 14 grandchildren Kyle (Ginny) Lautenslager, Courtney (James) Shelton, Brittany, Emily, and Allyson Lautenslager, Alexis (Zach) Conan, Brianna (Austin) Jacque, Joel, Emma, the late Grace, Matthew, and Ava Certo, Olivia, Aubrey, and Catherine Fells. Also, to his 8 great grandchildren, Tessa Buchanan, Luke Joyce, Austin, Logan, Mia, and Landon Lautenslager, Lyle and Remy Shelton, and 2 more on the way. Bill married his wife Kathleen on September 18, 1965, where they lived for 10 years in New Castle DE, before moving to Broomall, PA to raise their family. After high school, Bill attended Wyoming Seminary and Youngstown University where he studied Engineering. In 1962, Bill joined the Marines where he served for 7 years. During that time, he was awarded the Sharpshooter Rifle Metal. Bill also worked at Sun Oil and Scott Paper in Research and Development, before becoming self employed as a contractor. He then went on to become employed with Alleva Funeral Home in Paoli where he worked for over 15 years. In his retirement he enjoyed his animals, his grandchildren, the Poconos, and vacationing in Hilton Head Island with his family. Bill was the family chef, passing down his secret recipes to only the lucky ones. The master pancake maker, and every morning he started his day in the kitchen and ended his day in the same place. Poppie loved his grandchildren more then his love for green spearmint leaves candies, black licorice, ice cream, and tomato soup cake. If Buffalo plaid was a person, it would have been Poppie. His “uniform” was his plaid shirts, khaki pants, and his white undershirt (which, by the way, were always dirty). Poppie had a personal relationship with Amazon and made sure to be the first one to have every new gadget and was excited to show it off as soon as you would walk in the door. Although he was a man of very few words, Bill showed his love by his actions (and an occasional grunts). His warmth was always palpable and will be missed dearly.
