Bill was a 1958 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and married the love of his life, Mary Alice, the following year. They spent eleven active years in the Navy living in many places, including California and Japan, where their children were born. His favorite memory of the Navy was serving as the Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Gallup.
In 1969, he decided it was time to leave the Navy lifestyle and settle into the world of stocks and bonds in Philadelphia. His accomplishments in the securities and banking industry ultimately led to his favorite career as President & CEO of BHC Securities, a start-up clearing firm for bank-run brokerages.
He retired in 1999 and he and his wife enjoyed dual residences in Newtown Square and Bonita Springs.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking, skiing, and playing dominoes. He made omelets on Sunday mornings and popcorn balls and eggnog each Christmas. He always had a dog. He was adored by his family and although he could be quiet, his presence was large.
His love affair with his wife. Mary Alice was his greatest legacy. Their marriage of 67 years was filled with travel, deep friendships, but mostly cherished times with their family. They vowed to grow old together and die together, and that’s just what they did. Mary Alice preceded Bill in death just two months prior. They will be buried together as was their wish.
Bill is survived by his daughters Suzanne (Sheldon), Heidi (Duke), Sarah (Matt), as well as nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was a sweet, generous, and good man, and he will be greatly missed by us all. His was a life well lived.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 10:30am at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church (689 Sugartown Rd, Malvern, PA 19355).
