Calmer Jerome Nelson of Papillion, NE was born March 3, 1932, in Ottertail County, MN to Oscar and Eldora(Johnson)Nelson. He graduated from Ashby High School in Ashby, MN in 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD.
On May 31, 1953 he married his High School sweetheart, Mary Jane Lundberg at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashby, MN. They lived in Rapid City, until he was discharged in 1959. They then moved to Fargo, ND where he worked for W.W. Wallwork Dealership and Garage as a janitor while attending business college for 2 years. Upon graduating he got a job with Civil Service in Minot, ND. He transferred to Offutt Air Force Base, Bellevue, NE in 1963 where he worked in accounting and finance, and purchased a home in Papillion.
He retired from Offutt Air Force Base in 1992 and continued to reside in Papillion for the past 59 years. He was active on Church Council and as an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion. When he wasn’t working, he spent his summers at their lake home in Eagle Lake, MN fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
On Friday, September 9, 2022, Calmer passed away in his home in Papillion at the age of 90 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Nelson; son, Jack(Suzy) of Omaha, daughter, Julie(Steve) of Colorado, brother, David(Margaret) of Maryland, brother, Larry(Becky) of Ashby, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren children, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eldora Nelson, a baby brother, brothers Marvin Nelson, Gerald Nelson, sister, Janet Williams, and son, Robert Nelson.
VISITATION will be held Saturday, September 17, from 9:30am-10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion, NE. FUNERAL SERVICE will follow at 10:30. Interment at Cedar Dale Cemetary, in Papillion followed with a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran. Visit the Funeral Home website to leave condolences and for a full obituary.
