Cathy was born in Garden City, Kansas, to the late Martha and Gene Rudd. She grew up in Garden City, graduating from Garden City High School in the Class of 1977. She went on to attend Fort Hays State University, where she forged lifelong friendships as a proud member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
In her early career, Cathy worked in the banking industry before marrying Gil Sorens and transitioning to her most cherished role as a full-time mother. She dedicated her life to raising her three sons while also managing bookkeeping and property management for the family business. Later in life, she found great joy in her seasonal work at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch, treasuring the crisp fall days worked alongside dear friends.
In 1997, Cathy married the love of her life, Bob Lewis, expanding her family to include two stepdaughters whom she loved as her own.
Though Bob preceded her in death, Cathy’s devotion to her blended family remained a central pillar of her life.
Cathy’s vibrant social life revolved around her faith and her community at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter who cherished getaway weekends at quilt retreats, a voracious reader, and a die-hard Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan who never missed a game. Above all, her favorite title was grandmother, and she treasured every single moment spent with her grandchildren. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone in need.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Gene Rudd, and her husband, Bob Lewis.
She is survived by her sons: Eric Sorens and his wife Katie, Alex Sorens and his wife Jane Hartigan, and Ryan Sorens and his partner Rachael Cambridge; her cherished grandchildren, Michael (8), Emmett (7), and Ava Sue (1); her brother, Phil Rudd; her sister Barb Knobel; her Nieces Emily Mock and Natalie Carrillo; her stepdaughters, Emily Engles and Becky Lewis; and a community of friends who will miss her deeply.
