OBITUARY

Clara Beth Lahr

Clara “Beth” (Swanda) Lahr Beth was born April 4, 1931 to Emil M. and Pauline (Ashmore) Swanda at Crete, NE. Beth passed through the gates of Heaven on October 7 2019. She graduated from Sargent High School in 1949. She also graduated from Hastings Beauty Academy. On October 15, 1950 she married H. Leroy Lahr. They lived in Hastings until 1962 when they moved to Cozad, NE. She owned and operated Beth’s Beauty Shop for many years. In 1986 they moved back to Hastings and she worked at the Children’s Ark until retiring in 2001. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church serving on different boards and teaching Sunday school. She was a member of the Christian Builder’s Sunday School Class. Beth was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents Emil and Pauline Swanda and her brother Mike Swanda. She is survived by her daughter Claudia and husband Wayne Rouse, her daughter Ellen and husband Jim Carlson, her granddaughter Malia and husband Tom Emary and her step-son Gerald Lahr. Graveside Service only will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings, NE on October 12th at Noon. Memorials may be sent to the Nebraska Children’s Home and the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

So many special memories of our time together at The Children’s Ark. You and Roy were both so special and we loved having you be a part of the Ark family. You shared your love with all of my kids as they spent their preschool year in your class. You were such a special lady!

I was born on April 1 Beth April 4 she sent me a card every year..which was so nice of her.. one of my memories of beth was in the summer and fall nights they would both beth and roy would be outside on their porch swing we..me and rick would be across on ours ..we would talk back and forth when the cars would pass .on 7th street its really busy..but we got alot in...we knew the time would come when beth would have to move her house was to big for her and because of her health..I dont know if anyone has ever had a neighbor like beth but we did she would call me if a storm was on it's way to tell us to bring our car over to her garage..in time beth just gave us a opener...so special to both of us...we love her...beth you and roy enjoy your porch swing...
