I have so many memories of Uncle Denny. First, he gave my sister and I rides in his RED convertible when we were little, driving from Hamlin to Audubon with the top down. We were about 4 & 6, that was "neat." Then I became their flower girl when Uncle Denny and Aunt Donna were married. I remember family reunions when Denny and Dad would each sit at opposite ends of the table, measuring the length to the inside of the table with their arms, making sure they could reach all the food in the center. Pinochle card games. Driving the boat while Denise taught me to water ski. But most of all the kind, caring man he was. Uncle Den, you will be missed. Love Den & Laurie

Biography

Dennis McKean was born on February 9,1936 in Harrison County, Iowa to
Lee and Florence McKean. He grew up on the family farm, outside of
Persia, IA. and attended Country School until the 5th grade. He then
attended Persia Public Schools until he graduated in 1954. In High
School, Dennis met the love of his life, Donna Champlin.

After High School, Dennis moved to Omaha to find a job to make money
to pay for his cars. He found employment at United Floors installing
Vinyl Floors and Plastic Laminate Countertops.

He married Donna on May 27, 1956. In August of 1957, they had a
daughter, Dennise and in December of 1959, they had a son, Darren.

In 1962, to provide for his family, Dennis decided to start his own
Floorcovering Company with $100 and 1 employee. In 1964, another son,
David was born. That same year, Dennis moved his family business to
Ralston. He worked out of several locations in downtown Ralston throughout
the years until 1997 when Dennis built the building at its current location
near 108th and Harrison St.

Dennis worked very hard building his business. He had high morals, high
integrity, honesty, slow to anger, a man of faith and had compassion
for all his employees, not easily done in this world today.

Dennis provided his family with many wonderful experiences and
memories such as a cabin in Cedar Creek, season tickets to Omaha
Knights Hockey games, a homemade ice-skating rink, mini bikes and
many family vacations.

When Dennis wasn't working, you could find him out in the garage
working on some kind ofproject. Either working on his cars or rebuilding a
piece of furniture that he found in someone's trash. He loved to go pheasant
hunting and always had his annual deer hunting trip. He bowled in a league
for a number of years and enjoyed traveling with Donna.

Dennis retired in 2010. He and Donna enjoyed their winters in Phoenix
together. They were active in Airedale Rescue. They loved to go out to
eat, playing cards with friends, Bible studies and watching Fox News.

Dennis passed away August 1, 2019, surrounded by his family.
