

Donita Gottsch Mitchell was born in Springfield, NE on February 9,1925, and passed away in Aurora NE on November 8, 2021. Donita was the daughter of George and Golda (Haney) Gottsch. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1942. During WWII, she worked at Meade Bomb Plant, and was a riveter and crane operator at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Factory in Bellevue Nebraska. She was very proud of her work there, and the part she played in the war effort. Following the war, she moved to Omaha and attended business school. She married William (Bill) Mitchell on August 30, 1947 in Springfield. They were blessed with two sons, Kevin and Kurt. She enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother and Den Leader Coach and traveling the country with her family. The family enjoyed taking a two week vacation each summer and traveled to most Husker Bowl games each December. Donita was a travel agent, and loved putting together travel itineraries for friends and family. After retirement, Bill and Donita enjoyed traveling the world, collecting sand from every beach they visited. In 1987 they built a home and returned to Springfield. Donita and Bill were members of First United Methodist Church in Omaha for many years and they enjoyed square dancing. They were members of the Hi Flyers Square Dance Club in Omaha for many years. Donita was President of Woman Society of Methodist Church Springfield and a Life member of American Legion Auxiliary Posts 112 & 143.
Donita was preceded in death by her parents George and Golda Gottsch, her husband Bill Mitchell and her brother Darrel Gottsch. Those left to cherish her memory are Kevin and CeCe Mitchell, Springfield NE and Kurt and Sue Mitchell of Aurora, NE. Grandchildren Brett (Katie) Mitchell, Allison (Edwin) Gomez, TJ (Sydney) Turner, Dana Turner and Nicholas Mitchell. Great Grand Children William Ryan, Addie Ryan, Charlie Mitchell, Ezekiel Gomez, Aubree Eads, Benjamin Gomez, Leighton Turner and Clara Mitchell.
Services will be Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Springfield United Methodist Church at 11:00 in Springfield NE. Visitation will be at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion from 4:00 – 7:00 . Interment will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
