Edith M Pruitt

August 23, 1931August 10, 2019

Edith May Kelly Taylor Pruitt. A survivor of the London Blitz of WWII, Edith was born and raised in Bayswater, London, England, where she met and married US Airman John W. Pruitt of Kentucky, who had served his country as a ball turret gunner in the Pacific during the war. Together they lived in Bangor ME, Riverside CA, Rome NY, Marysville, CA, and Papillion, NE, with Edith raising their family while John served in Korea, Vietnam, and finally at Offutt Strategic Air Command in Bellevue, before ending his career as a refueling boom operator on a KC-135. Edith proudly became a U.S. citizen in the late 1960s, and was devoted and proud of her adopted country but maintained her citizenship in the UK. Edith also worked at the Papillion La Vista Public School system, and as a manager at K Mart in La Vista. Following John's death in 1991, Edith devoted her time to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Papillion, where she had been a member for nearly 50 years, and was a member of the choir and an active participant in Bible studies. She was also a proud Papillion-La Vista High School band parent, an avid reader, and a devoted dog owner. She leaves her children Julie Pruitt Barry, a lawyer in Boston, and son-in-law, Michael Barry, Lori Pruitt Olson, a service rep for Paypal in Omaha, and son-in-law Todd Olson, and Kelly Pruitt Uhing, City Naturalist for Denver County, CO, and son-in-law Chris Uhing; predeceasing Edith was baby Stephanie, who died in infancy, but was never forgotten. Edith also leaves her grandchildren, William John Barry of Boston, and Taylor Ann Uhing of Erie, CO, niece and goddaughter Debbie Campen, and goddaughter Allison Mike. Edith was predeceased by her sisters, Vera Kelly Campen and Phyllis Taylor, both of the United Kingdom. Generous after death as well as in life, Edith was a registered organ donor. At her directive, there will be no service; her children will scatter her ashes in the Atlantic ocean. Donations can be made in her name to: the Nebraska Humane Society, 8929 Fort Street Omaha, NE 68134
