Elizabeth Jean Rudolph

Elizabeth's childhood was shaped by her father's work with the Bureau of Reclamation, which led the family to relocate several times before eventually settling in Smith Center, Kansas. It was there that her father passed away and where Elizabeth completed her high school education, graduating from Smith Center High School in 1955.

Following graduation, Elizabeth moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended Omaha Bible Institute for four years. She then pursued nursing studies at Immanuel School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree. After graduation, she worked in the emergency room in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Soon afterward, she was invited to join the faculty at Immanuel School of Nursing. Although surprised to be asked so soon after graduating, she accepted the opportunity and devoted her career to teaching nursing, serving countless students until her retirement.

On October 16, 1965, Elizabeth married the love of her life, Herbert Rudolph, at Bellevue Baptist Church in Bellevue, Nebraska. During Herb's military service, the couple lived in Japan, where Elizabeth worked at the base hospital. Upon returning to the United States, they were stationed at Offutt Air Force Base and made their home in the Omaha area. Following retirement, they built a townhome in Papillion, Nebraska, where they enjoyed many happy years together.

Elizabeth and Herb shared a love of travel. They visited relatives throughout Europe and frequently traveled to New York to spend time with Herb's siblings and their families. Together they also enjoyed exploring many of America's National Parks.

Faith was the foundation of Elizabeth's life. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child and remained a faithful follower throughout her life. She and Herb were active members of Bellevue Baptist Church before later joining Good Shepherd Baptist Church and subsequently Karen Street Baptist Church. Elizabeth faithfully served her church family as church clerk and willingly helped with many practical needs, including cleaning the church. She loved being in God's house whenever the doors were open. She treasured reading her Bible, singing hymns, studying theology, and taking detailed notes during sermons. Her home library reflected her deep love for learning and growing in her faith.

Elizabeth was known for her warm smile, gracious spirit, and thoughtful kindness. She was always quick to express gratitude, whether through a heartfelt thank-you, a handwritten note, or a kind word of encouragement. She was a joy to be around and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

After Herb's passing on January 4, 2021, Elizabeth's battle with dementia eventually required her to move into memory care. Even then, she remained committed to attending church services as long as she was able.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert Rudolph; her parents, Everett and Pearl Bursell; and her sister, Helen McKay and brother-in-law Bill McKay.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carol Bursell; her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Harry Hendrich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family would like to express special gratitude to Sally Heitz for her faithful friendship and weekly visits to Elizabeth. Her kindness, companionship, and devotion brought great joy and encouragement to Elizabeth, especially in her later years.

Elizabeth's life was a testimony to faith, service, gratitude, and love for the Lord. While she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior whom she loved and served so faithfully.

A Graveside Service will be held at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, Nebraska 68138, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
