Evelyn "Lynn" Svoboda-Danahy

Lynn was born June 30, 1921, in Omaha, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Vopolka. She was raised in Omaha’s “Little Italy,” where her parents owned a small neighborhood grocery store. She grew up in the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish at its original location at 10th Street and Pine. Lynn graduated from St. Mary’s (Mercy) High School.

Lynn and her first husband, Val Svoboda, were married on February 22, 1944. Val passed away in 1974 after 30 years of marriage. Lynn later married William “Bill” Danahy on October 22, 1977, and they shared 38 years together until Bill’s passing in 2015. Through the seasons of her life, Lynn’s steadfast devotion and loyalty were constant qualities that shaped a home grounded in love, perseverance, and quiet strength.

Lynn is survived by her daughter, Janet Hylen of Arizona, and her son, Kent Svoboda of Papillion. She was preceded in death by her son Kirk Svoboda. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Gayle, Andrea (Bennett), Brian (Melissa), Dan, Stephanie (Brett), and Chris (Nikki); and five great-grandchildren.

Lynn found joy in making every holiday a celebration, lovingly decorating the interior of her home so that each season felt special and warmly welcomed. Her care for others extended beyond her family as well. Lynn was proud to be recognized for 25 years of volunteer work in the Surgery Waiting Area of CHI Midlands Hospital—service that reflected her hard work, resilience, and the steady kindness she offered to those around her.

Lynn cherished the friendships she built throughout her life—from childhood companions to dear friends she held close well into her later years. She valued staying connected, nurturing relationships, and honoring the people who shared life’s journey with her. Beloved by many, Lynn leaves a legacy of enduring love, faithful commitment, and a life lived with purpose.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the loving staff at Trinity Village, CCA Home Care, and to the Tabitha Hospice Team who cared for Lynn in the final weeks.

A Funeral Mass for Lynn will be held on September 1, 2026, at 10:30 am at St Columbkille Church in Papillion, Nebraska. The Committal Service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
