OBITUARY

Govindsamy "Neville" Pillay

November 13, 1972December 29, 2020

Govindsamy (Neville) Pillay was born on the 13th of November 1972 at the St. Aiden's Hospital in Durban, South Africa. He was the first child to parents Amarabatheyamal (Lutchmee) and the late Moonsamy (Ryan) Pillay.

After spending a few years growing up in New Farm, the Pillay family moved to the then newly developed Phoenix township in 1981. Govindsamy was 9 years old. It is there in Phoenix, that the family grew with the arrival of three brothers and it is still his Mother's place of residence to this day.

The boy Govindsamy schooled at Natest Primary and then Rydalvale Primary. It was in these years that he developed a voratious appetite for reading and art which naturally poised him for early academic excellence.

He completed his education at Rydalpark Secondary in 1990, keen on pursuing a career in Civil Engineering. His plans soon changed, however. Driven by the hunger to make his own living, he left his studies and worked in cinema entertainment, security and finally telecommunications. During this time he had to step in to support his Mother and young brothers after the passing of their Father in 1994.

Shortly after the younger brothers had completed their schooling, Govindsamy left for the United States in 2000.

Neville met Kara in June of 2005 in Westchester County, New York. Neville was working for Cablevision at the time. Neville and Kara got married on February 16th, 2007. On March 23rd, 2007 they welcomed Lilly Anne into the world. Their second child, Jaya Kristin was born on May 17th, 2009. Their third child, Brendan Dean was born on May 8th, 2012. Neville and Kara made the decision to make the move to Papillion, Nebraska to be closer to Kara's family in the summer of 2012. Neville continued his work here in Nebraska as a technician for Century Link. Neville was a family man. He had a bubbly personality and instantly made friends with anyone he came across. He loved all of his family and friends and loved spending time with them all. Neville and his protecting presence will be greatly missed by everyone, especially his wife and children.

He is preceded in death by his father, Moonsamy (Ryan) Pillay.

He is survived by his loving wife Kara, children Lilly (13) , Jaya (11) Brendan (8), and his dog companion, Bo. His father-in-law, Don Paul, mother-in-law Sue Maher and Glenn Christensen, sister-in-law, Kristin Paul and Nick Guhde and his nephew NJ Guhde. Also survived by several extended family and friends.

In South Africa, he is survived by his mother, Lutchmee and brothers Paul (Amanda), Puvern (Karen) and Pugern (Natalie). Nieces, Jade, Jasmine, and Wesley. A nephew, Warren. Aunts Maliga, Rajes, Savithree, Patcha, Sundrie, Loshni and Uncles Ronnie, Shan, Nanda, Chandhra, Mani and many loving cousins.

He leaves behind scores of Friends in both the USA and South Africa, who like the family, with heavy hearts will have to fill a chasm that time will find daunting.

Govindsamy’s nickname was Goncha . I remember those days in Rydalvale Primary, he was two years ahead of me, he was a Library Prefect ( equivalent of a class monitor ?) At the end of the year, they would do an audit of all missing books, then trace back the culprits who did not return their library books. I was one such culprit, Goncha saved me from a trashing by the library teacher, pleaded for leniency on my behalf 😂 Rest in Paradise bro ❤️🇿🇦🌍🙏🏿

I was fortunate enough to have schooled with Neville at Rydalpark until matric. Being in a class full of boys (and just 3 girls) was memorable. Neville was "another brother" to me. We had so much of fun back in school. His smile, jokes and that walk just brings back good memories. Another gem lost from the 10A class.....

To Kara, his children and his SA family......it's a void that can't be filled. Our classmates miss him dearly
