
From April 1952 to April 1954, Howard served in the United States Army primarily at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri as a motor vehicle mechanic and instructor. At his discharge, he was a Staff Sergeant. After army life, Howard started farming in the Freeman, SD area. While farming, he attended ag classes offered in the Freeman area.
In 1955 Howard met Neva Wipf. They were married July 2, 1956. They continued to farm until the early 60s at which time they moved to Laramie, WY, where they both received their bachelors degrees in education from the University of Wyoming. Both taught in Gillette,WY.
They moved to Omaha, NE. Howard taught math in the Council Bluffs School District for twenty-seven years. During his teaching years, Howard earned his Master of Science degree from UNO.
As residents of Omaha, Howard and Neva became avid UNL Cornhusker fans. Husker memorabilia attests to their loyalty.
Howard passed away on November 22, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Benjamin P Graber Jr. Neva passed away February 9, 2023. He is survived by two sisters, Joan Waterbury and Ann Phelps both of whom reside in California, sister-in-law Helene (Wendt) Graber, nieces and nephews, five sisters-in-law and many friends.
