It's been almost seven years since you went to your eternal reward, Joanie, and I still miss you every day. I don't know how you managed those fifteen years after Jay died; I am struggling after only nine months since Doug died. You helped marry me twice and adopt four incredible children. I miss your Biblical, motherly wisdom, your cooking and gardening tips as well as your unique insights into the troubles of daily life and our world as a whole. We learned to tat together and spent countless hours stitching in your living room.  You accepted me and every member of my family just as we were and brought smiles to every life you touched. Oh, how the world could use a kind a gentle soul like you in this world so troubled and divided. Thank you for all the peace and wisdom you imparted with me...

We were so saddened and shocked to learn of Joan's passing. I am Jay's cousin and had a call from my brother Haney in Auburn, NE that had heard from his 93 year old neighbor that had seen the obituary and had known Virginia. Joan always had a smile and a kind word and our family will dearly miss her. We wish we had known of her passing to be able to have attended her funeral. Our prayers go out to her family.

I am so sad and in shock, I just heard of Joan's passing... I still can't believe it.  Joan was a kind, gentle and sweet woman, definitely one of a kind. God bless

I have worked with Joan professionally for the past 10 years.  She was always a joy to see.  Always a great outlook and disposition.  She was the kind of person that made my job rewarding.  I will miss her.

We've only met Joan a month ago tLifetree Cafe...but she was warm, welcoming and a great lady to chat with. We were fortunate to know her evenfor just a short time. Prayers and healing to her family.

I met Joan and Jay when I first moved to Omaha in 1986. Our professional paths kept crossing until we just gave up and became friends. That is what made Joan so easy to know and love: no one was a stranger for long. I will miss you dear friend and will remember you each spring when the Lilies of the Valley and plantation hostas we transplanted from your garden sprout in mine. My sympathies to Don, Bob and all Joan's family who will miss her dearly.

Words can't describe the love, comfort and joy that Joannie and Jay have brought to my family over the years. The Baier Family will miss her dearly.

I knew Joan and Jay way back when my sons were young, we would visit them at their home and always had a great time. Joan was a special lady, her smile brought smiles to all she met.

Joan was an active member at our art class each week. We loved her wit, her empathy for others, and her artistic endeavors.

I've seen Joan in church for as long as I can remember.  We joined Trinity when she was coming to church with Jay!  She has always been there and feels like a part of our family.  She was always interested in what our family was up to and had words of encouragement for us!  Her faith in God was the foundation of her life which served as a testimony to all who met her!  She will be greatly missed!

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting Aunt Joan. However, Brian (Higbee) has always spoken so highly of her and told me when he was young he said to her that he was going to marry her =) 

I'm so very sorry for your loss Uncle Don, Donnie, Doug & Brian! My heart goes out to her entire family and all of her friends! Rest In Peace Aunt Joan!

Joan, was a fellow church member, and a 'great friend. I will now cherish, the sweet memories, of the dinners, we had after Christmas Eve, Candel-light services.  Jane Ferguson

I met Joan at Bakers in La Vista as carry- out / cashier. When I saw her at the Bellevue Community Senior Center in the Art room. I remember the face but not her name. But I did   remember her shopping at Bakers. It was nice to see her again. I always enjoyed talking to Joan when she came to class. Joan did beautiful art work that I admired. I will miss her smiles, going out to lunch on Friday with the ladies. Joan was a Beautiful person in  side out. I am bless that I knew her.

Such a kind person, always smiling and laughing.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Joan was like a mother to me, and I will miss her more than words can say. She was in an amazing lady, patient, kind, & faithful through all. Her example was a comfort through good times and bad. I am a better mom and wife because of Joan.

Joan was a wonderful person and she will be greatly missed. She was loved by all of us her family at the Great Plains PVA.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time of sorrow.
