The son of a military family, he lived throughout the United States and across the world during his youth. While living outside London, he visited the original London Bridge spanning the Thames River, watched the Concorde supersonic jet fly above his house, and witnessed the Apollo moon landing on a black and white television set. His family eventually settled down in Bellevue, Nebraska where he built lifelong friendships and graduated from Bellevue West High School in 1981. He later graduated from Wayne State College in 1984.
During his first job at Mutual of Omaha, Scott met his wife Alexi. After only one date he knew that he wanted to marry her, and that is exactly what happened in 1994. They had three children, and Scott never missed an opportunity to encourage their endeavors across school, sports, and work. He spent thousands of hours cheering on his children, nieces, nephews, and friends at athletic events, and was always present to support those that he loved. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, and family man throughout his life.
Scott traveled extensively to various parts of the world, including mission trips to India, Honduras, Israel, and Palestine. He went scuba diving in the Maldives, traveled across Europe, spent time in Taipei and Dubai, visited 14 NFL stadiums, and climbed multiple “14ers” in Colorado. In his spare time, he was a beekeeper, writer, bowler, and artist.
Though he avoided attention and titles, Scott was a dedicated philanthropist who donated his time and resources to causes that were close to his heart. He served as Chair of the Elder Board at Calvary Christian Church, volunteered extensively at Carriage Hill Elementary School, and supported numerous non-profit organizations. His faith in Jesus Christ was his guiding light and radiated through every aspect of his life.
He is survived by wife Alexi Wellman; children: Cole, Jessica, and Ryan Wellman; siblings: Patricia Hall, John Wellman, and Pamela Parker; countless other relatives and friends.
Friends and loved ones are invited to attend Scott’s Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Calvary Christian Church (10100 Cedar Island Road, Bellevue, NE).
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Scott's memory may be made to the Calvary Christian Church Impact Fund, which supports the Sarpy Care Center.
