Kevin C. Russell
May 18, 1963 – October 19, 2018
Kevin Charles Russell, age 55, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in Omaha on October 19, 2018. Kevin was born on May 18, 1963 , just a stone’s throw from Disneyland, to Virginia Strassberg Russell and Howard Charles Russell. In 1992 he met and married his wife Valerie Owen Russell. Together they had two daughters, Madeline and Rebecca, who were the joys of his life. His wife, daughters, mother, father, and brother, Matthew A. Russell, survive him. Kevin secured his BS in Computer Science from National University in San Diego and went on to secure an MS-Cybersecurity from Bellevue University. Kevin also attended a number of SANs courses, and obtained certifications including CISSP, CRISC, and GSLC, along with a variety of additional industry certifications including NSA IEM and IAM, IBM Security Top Gun, and ITIL Foundation. His passion for computer security, combined with his love of helping people, led him to a career that he loved. Highlights of his career included employment at Hughes Aircraft, Info USA, and Sirius. He harnessed this energy to launch a personal security crusade, spending the last 15 years delivering workshops to parents, teens, church groups, scout troops, school assemblies, Nebraska CERT, and others about how to protect their families on the Internet. Inspired by the questions asked by the church youth group he co-led, whom he held in his heart long after they graduated, he wrote and published books on keeping families safe on the Internet in 2012 and 2015. His hobbies led to his latest pastime, teaching as an adjunct professor at Bellevue University. Kevin never missed an event in his beloved daughters’ lives. He taught Sunday school and coached their Destination Imagination teams. His pride in them was boundless. He counted Maddy and Becca as his greatest blessings, along with his wife and favorite traveling companion, Valerie. Along with his deep devotion to his family, Kevin was best known for his love of two places: Madeline Island, Wisconsin, and Disney World. After seeing the joyful faces of his daughters at Disney, he wanted to share it with the world and published two books on Disney. To commemorate his love of the Island, where his ashes will be placed to rest in his family plot, memorials may be sent to the Madeline Island Historical Museum (226 Colonel Woods Ave, PO Box 9, La Pointe, WI 54850). CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Friday, October 26, at Kahler Dolce Mortuary, 441 N Washington St, Papillion, 402-339-3232 KAHLER DOLCE MORTUARY

I was fortunate to have worked with Kevin during a time when our organization was a client of his. I was always impressed by his knowledge of information security and enjoyed working with him. My daughter attended Rockhurst, so we had things to discuss outside of work as well. I learned a lot about information security from Kevin and he gave me guidance on furthering my own career. I will always be grateful for that.

Kevin was always smiling, always cheery, always positive. He touched everyone around him in a good way and made the world a better place just by being around. You will always be a great inspiration and fondly remembered.
I miss your smile Kevin.
