Lynda J. Molyneaux

She is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, niece & nephew, her brother Roger Kenworthy, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil Dean Kenworthy, Annabelle Mathias Kenworthy and her husband Joel E. Molyneaux.

Born June 15, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, Lynda treasured her upbringing near the mountains and carried with her a lifelong appreciation for the people and places that shaped her earliest years, including many fond memories with her parents, brother, and cousins in Colorado.

Lynda devoted her life to education and to the steady, often quiet work of helping young people find their footing. She earned a degree in education from Southern Methodist University in 1973 and later completed a Master's in School Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. For more than 30 years, she served Omaha Public Schools—beginning as a French teacher and then becoming a guidance counselor at Monroe Junior High School. In her final 10 years with OPS, she served as Guidance Director at Omaha Central High School, retiring in 2006. Her calling to support students did not end there; she went on to work as a guidance counselor at Papillion La Vista High School for 10 more years, completing her second retirement in 2016. Throughout her career, Lynda was known for the care she extended to others and the lasting difference she made through each interaction—an influence felt by students and colleagues alike.

She met her husband, Joel, at SMU, and they were married in 1972, sharing 45 years of marriage. Joel’s service in the Air Force brought them to Omaha, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Together they raised two daughters, Annie (Charles) Walcutt and Kelly (John) Vornbrock. Lynda was a loving mother and, in the years that followed, a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren—Annabelle, Silas, Grace Walcutt, and Violet, Georgia, Bodie Vornbrock—whom she adored. The last 13 years of her life revolved around her grandkids; she was there on the day each one of them was born and every day after, filling their lives with her presence—often babysitting, attending their events, hosting sleepovers, baking with them, and offering the kind of gentle, selfless love and support that leaves a family forever changed. Lynda was also a beloved aunt to Elita (Jack) Fuzak and Zakery Fuzak and they spent many Christmases and summers together in Buffalo and Lake Muskoka.

From childhood onward, Lynda’s heart was drawn to animals. She had a dog in every chapter of her life and lived out her dream of owning horses for more than 50 years, spending countless hours at the barn caring for the horses she loved. Her compassion also found expression through pet therapy. She trained two Golden Retrievers as certified therapy dogs, and her dog Sunnie became the first therapy dog in Papillion La Vista Community Schools, making a meaningful impact at Papillion La Vista High School. Through that dedication, Lynda helped open the door for many other therapy dog teams, leaving a lasting legacy of pet therapy within PLCS schools.

Lynda also gave her time and talents through community involvement with The College Board, Love on a Leash, and Take Flight Farms. In every setting—professional, personal, and community—she was a beloved friend to many, remembered for a steady kindness and a loving presence that made others feel seen and supported. Her reach was far and wide, and the world is a better place because she was in it. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on October 16, 2026, at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 324 S Jackson St, Papillion, NE 68046, US. A Graveside Service will follow at 12:30 pm on October 16, 2026, at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138, US.

Lynda’s family is grateful for advancements in breast cancer treatments and research which allowed Lynda to thrive for nearly 5 years with metastatic breast cancer.
