Arlyne Weichel was born November 14, 1937, and grew up on a farm west of Murdock, Nebraska, the second child of William and Mary Streich. She grew up alongside her older brother, Dayel, and younger sister, Kathy, forming a close bond as they spent their days together playing in the sandbox, caring for kittens, riding their horse Pi, bicycling, and sharing in the daily chores of farm life. Surrounded by grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles all in the same community, those early years shaped her strong sense of family and connection.
Arlyne graduated from high school in 1955 and went on to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she earned her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in Ord, Nebraska, before moving to Ralston, where she married Harry in 1959.
Together, Arlyne and Harry built their life in Ralston, where they raised four children: Daniel (Donna), Lynda (John) Williams, Julie (Terry) Jensen, and Mark (Jenny). Arlyne dedicated herself fully to raising her children, making her role as a mom her most important work and creating a home for her family.
In 1983, she returned to the workforce for Q Street Chiropractic Center, where her organizational skills and enjoyment of people made her a natural fit. She worked there for many years before retiring in 2003.
Arlyne had a deep appreciation for life’s moments, often describing them as “extra special.” Whether it was coloring Easter eggs, watching a sunset on Fort Myers Beach, enjoying a meal, celebrating the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, or taking in the beauty of flowers in Harry’s garden, and later the solar garden, she had a way of noticing and valuing the moment.
She and Harry shared a love for travel, including cruises and trips across the country. One of her most meaningful experiences was traveling to Heidelberg, Germany, on her 65th birthday, visiting the land of her ancestors.
Arlyne found great joy in following the activities of her children and grandchildren, taking pride in learning and supporting sports like football, baseball, wrestling, swimming, and soccer.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She was active in her church community, from her early years in Murdock to Trinity United Methodist Church in Ralston. She taught Sunday School, participated in United Methodist Women, and was a longtime member of the “Scribblers” writing group. Writing became one of her favorite hobbies, and through it she captured memories of her childhood, family, and life experiences, creating something meaningful for her grandchildren to hold onto.
Arlyne and Harry also enjoyed many years of square dancing, forming lasting friendships and staying active together.
Her pride and joy were her seven grandchildren: Trevor, Andy, Marisa, Maddie, Tyler, Nate, and Noah.
