Robert Jerome Nelson, age 66, of Colorado Springs, Colorado was born January 26, 1955, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Calmer and Mary Jane Nelson. He passed away on July 30, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs.
He graduated from Papillion - LaVista High School in Papillion, Nebraska in 1973. He then enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. He served in the Army from 1974 - 1977 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. Servicing military equipment from 1/4 ton jeeps to 10 ton tractors, trailers and 20 ton dumps. In 1985 he received an associate degree in Criminal Justice and in 2011 he received an associate degree in HVAC. Following his time in the Army, he worked for 40 years in numerous mechanical and body shops on foreign and domestic vehicles throughout the Colorado Springs area.
In his free time, he enjoyed working on his cars and trucks, his dogs, fishing, bowling, darts, and listening and dancing to country music. He also enjoyed visits to the family's cabin in Minnesota where most of his childhood vacations were spent fishing, hiking, and visiting with relatives.
He is survived by his Father, Calmer Nelson, Mother, Mary Jane Nelson, Brother, Jack (Suzy) of Omaha, Nebraska, Sister Julie (Steve) Bock of Longmont, Colorado and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 from 11am to 12pm at Kahler Dolce Mortuary in Papillion, NE. Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1pm at Omaha National Cemetery.
