Seturnino “Nino” Franco, 85, passed away on May 21, 2026. Born on April 7, 1941, Nino was raised in Minatare, Nebraska, where the values that shaped his life—steady devotion, deep faith, honest character, and a tireless work ethic—took root early and remained with him always.
Nino graduated from Minatare NE High School with the Class of 1959 and went on to earn a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nebraska in 1970. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Andrea Franco, and by his siblings Anicito Franco, Louis Franco, and Severiano Franco. He is survived by his siblings Salvadore Franco, Lucy Ventura, and Sally Montanez.
From 1960 to 1964, Nino served in the Air Force, answering the call to serve with quiet resolve. He later built a career with the Army Corps of Engineers, from which he retired—work that reflected his practical skill, reliability, and the kind of integrity that never sought attention, yet earned lasting respect.
On August 3, 1969, Nino married Gloria Muzquiz, beginning a partnership grounded in commitment and love. Together they welcomed their son, Gregory Franco (1971), and their daughter, Laura (1972). Laura married Ricardo Sanjurjo in 1993. Nino’s family grew to include grandchildren Erica Bruckner, Samantha Schneider, Cory Sanjurjo, Matthew Sanjurjo, Emma Franco, and Evan Franco, as well as 10 great-grandchildren—each one a continuation of the legacy he built through steadfast care and example.
Nino found joy in the simple satisfactions of time well spent—woodworking that turned patience into something lasting, and coin collecting that reflected an appreciation for history, detail, and the stories carried quietly through generations.
A faithful presence in his community, Nino was involved with the Knights of Columbus and was known for his generosity and church involvement. In ways both seen and unseen, he gave of himself with sincerity—showing up, lending a hand, and living his beliefs with consistency and grace.
Nino’s life was a testament to what endures: faith lived out in daily choices, devotion expressed through family and service, and honest hard work offered with humility. While he will be deeply missed, his example remains—uplifting, steady, and worthy of celebration.
