Throughout her life, Shirley demonstrated immense strength and resilience, but it was during her heroic fight against this terminal illness that her courage and determination truly shone. With unwavering resolve, she faced each day with grace, inspiring all who knew her.
Shirley was born March 11, 1949, to Frank and Antoinette (Rochowicz) Sobotka in Reading, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Schuylkill Valley High School with the Class of 1967.
Shirley’s story took a beautiful turn on May 15, 1976, when she married Paul Michael Dries. Together, they built a life that spanned across many states, creating numerous unforgettable moments in Pennsylvania, Florida, Delaware, and Nebraska. Their union was blessed with two children, Dawn and David, who became the heartbeats of Shirley’s existence.
Shirley’s joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Ava and Carter. She reveled in the role of grandma, creating cherished memories and passing down the values that defined her own journey.
Beyond her role as a loving matriarch, Shirley excelled in her professional endeavors at Traveler’s Insurance Company and the Papillion La Vista School District. Her dedication and work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, leaving an unforgettable mark on the communities she touched.
Shirley found joy in the company of dear friends during wine nights, where glasses were raised to celebrate life’s moments, big and small. Saturday mornings were marked by the warmth of shared breakfasts, creating memories and forging bonds that transcended time.
As Shirley embarked on her final journey she was surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Antoinette Sobotka, sister, JoAnn Surgeoner and brother-in-law Les Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Paul Dries; daughter Dawn Dries, son David (Bridget) Dries, grandchildren, Ava & Carter Dries, sister Patricia Bailey, other relatives and friends. Though she may have left this world, Shirley’s legacy of courage and determination will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers, doctors, and nurses who provided exceptional care and support during the last few years and her final days. Your kindness and dedication made an immeasurable difference, and we are forever thankful for the love and comfort you brought to her and to all of us.
