Sylvia Gustin, 88 years old, passed away in her home on Thursday, July 29, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lt Col (Ret) David W. Gustin, brother Donald E. Turner, and granddaughter, Jessica Noe’l Gustin. Sylvia was an endeared mother of Lee (Kathy) Gustin of San Antonio, TX, Guy Gustin, Bruce Gustin, Richard Gustin, and Barbara (Matthew) Sheppard, all of Omaha, NE. She was a beloved sister of Charles (Carole) Turner of Colorado Springs, CO, sister-in-law Cindy Adams of Potsdam, NY, and daughter-in-law Paula Gustin of Papillion, NE. She was a loving Nana to many, especially her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a loving companion to Dr. Vernon Plambeck.
Sylvia showered compassion upon those she came to know. Sylvia’s ingenuity was found in her knitting, sewing, and gardening. Her creativity was fostered by her love of the fine & performing arts. Sylvia sang in her church choir, or wherever a chorus could be found. Classical music was streamed throughout her home. Regardless of circumstance, Sylvia faithfully listened to the Metropolitan Opera each Saturday afternoon. Sylvia will be forever admired for her ability to nurture others, her adventurous spirit, and her wit and contagious smile.
A memorial in the form of your presence, monetary donation, or service to any performing arts organization in Sylvia’s honor would be an eternal gift.
Services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Chuch (324 S.Jackson St., Papillion) 11 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021. Internment will be at a later date at the Omaha National Cemetery.
