Thomas "Tom" Berg

Though hearts are broken, his life leaves behind a steady, shining reminder of what it looks like to show up, day after day, with love, humor, and a generous spirit.

Tom and Debbie were high school sweethearts. They married in May 1972. Together they raised their three wonderful sons. Tom found joy in the things that brought people together. He loved classic cars, and he especially treasured drag racing with his son Nick. With his many skills, Tom always made a house into a home for those he loved. “Papa Tom” brought joy to the kids with fantastic bedtime stories, hot tub time together, and a playful, goofy sense of humor that made ordinary moments feel like gifts.

From his early years, Tom’s path was rooted close to home. He attended Papillion High School and later the University of Nebraska at Omaha, carrying forward a grounded work ethic and an easy way of connecting with people that would become hallmarks of his life.

In his career, Tom was respected, loyal, and a valued mentor. Others could always count on him for guidance and encouragement. Tom was in many organizations in the trucking business over the years.

Tom was preceded to heaven by his father, Merlyn Berg; stepfather, Robert Knott; sister, Pamela Berg; sister-in-law, Rebecca Banks; grandparents, Willis and Helen Rabe, and Nels and Hertha Berg.

He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Knott; his loving wife, Debbie; three wonderful sons, Brad (Deanna) Berg, Trent (Kati) Berg, and Nick (Kylee) Berg; six beautiful grandchildren; two beautiful great-grandsons; brother, Doug (Linda) Berg; sister-in-law, Karen Duffy and Leslie Amick; brothers-in-law, Bill (Jackie) Swarbrick and Rick (Peggy) Swarbrick; many nieces and nephews; and so many thoughtful loving friends and extended family.

The family offers heartfelt thanks to the many friends who provided support and care for Tom. Thank you to Mable Rose Memory Care who was wonderful with him in end-of-life care.

Frontal Temporal Dementia is a cruel heartbreaking disease—it took so much from him and from us all before we ever said goodbye. With love surrounding him, Tom is now at peace and in the hands of the best: “To be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

A Memorial Service will be held on September 28, 2026, at 11:00 am. at Kahler Dolce Mortuary, 441 North Washington Street, Papillion, NE 68046. Visitation prior to the service from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.
