

Arthur Jim Green, Jr., 92, of Powderly, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Pine Tree Ranch Assisted Living in Paris. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3rd, at the Chicota Baptist Church with Rev. Rocky Burrow & Rev. Buddy Barnett officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Hopewell Cemetery in Wood County. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Mr. Green, the son of Arthur Green, Sr. & Effie Scoggin Green, was born June 5, 1924, in Wood County. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Jim was in the Pacific Theater serving on the USS Epping Forest which was an LSD4. Following his honorable discharge he began a career with the Dallas Fire Department on Aug. 16, 1948, and retired as a Captain twenty-seven years later on Sept. 1, 1975. He was a member of the Chicota Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Jim enjoyed working with the seniors where ever he was. On May 6 & 7 of 2016, he was honored to travel to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight honoring World War II and Korean Veterans assisted by his son, Danny. On July 16, 1944, he married Ada Lee “Tot” Treadway, building seventy years of family and memories before her death on May 7, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings; Tilman Green, Lon Green, Freda Green Smith and Joe Bob Green. Survivors include four children; Judy Green Millican & husband Karl of Red Oak, Danny Green & wife Becky of Cleburne, Bonnie Green of Hurst and Connie Green Talbott & husband Billy of Powderly, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a plethora of friends. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Brandon Millican, Clayton Green, Aaron Green, Nathan Hosford, Billy Shane Talbott and Rodney Talbott. Honorary bearers will be: Laning Ishmael, Claude Hall, Nick Melton, James Treadway, Gary Archer, Marshall Hall, Jack Davis, David Knowles, Brad Peveto, Dave Hellman and Don Gonzales. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to: Platinum Palliative & Hospice Care, Inc., 140 S.
