Bass was the son of Bass Greene Stokes, Sr and Mary Elizabeth Potts Stokes. He was born in Shreveport, LA and grew up and lived in the Dallas, TX area until he retired. He retired in Paris, (Novice) TX. He worked as a machinist for many years in the aerospace industry and retired as a Pricing and Estimating Group Leader from Bell Helicopter in Hurst, TX in March 2008.
His hobbies included stamp collecting, shooting at the gun range, reading, camping with his family, boating, skiing and parasailing with his 4 children and friends at his lake lot.
His retirement was enjoyed in Novice, Texas with his wife, Cathy, and their horses, chickens, dogs and cats. Bass was on the board of the Novice Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. He also attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and enjoyed working at the Community Food Pantry there for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bass Greene Stokes, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Potts Stokes, his brother-in-law, Joe Wagnon, and ex-wife Bennie Payne Stokes.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Jo Dunham Stokes, sister, Mary Wagnon, brother, Bill Stokes, son, Bass Greene Stokes, III and wife, Karen Stokes, daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Stokes Long, and husband Andy Long, daughter, Susan Elaine Stokes, son, Michael Edward Stokes and wife, Andrea Keahey-Stokes, bonus daughters, Amy Beth Peterson, and Cari Jo Braddy, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
