

Ferman C. “Sammy” Fernandez, 83, of Paris, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 2:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Fort Hancock Cemetery in Fort Hancock, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home. Sammy was born February 21, 1932 in Fort Hancock to Melchor Fernandez and Juana Carrizatez Fernandez. He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Later he worked for many years for Austin Bridge Company, doing road construction and building many bridges in the Houston area. He was a proud member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and he thought greatly of Father Anthony Stoeppel. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sammy Ferman Fernandez; two brothers, Jesus and Manuel Fernandez and a sister, Felicita Esparza. Survivors include a daughter, Terrie L. Freeman & husband Tim of Paris; sons, James Fernandez & wife Misti of Paris, Tony Fernandez of Paris, Steven “Pete” Fernandez & wife Marla of Texarkana and Tracy Fernandez of Alamogordo, NM; 14 grandchildren, 8 great–grandchildren; one sister, Maria Valenzuela of Sacramento, CA, a close friend, Oleta Sloan, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.
