

James W. “Jim” Spiller, 92, of Paris, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Following Jim’s wishes, no services are scheduled. Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Mr. Spiller, the son of William Watson Spiller & Mary Bell Spiller, was born June 15, 1924, in Brady, TX. He served as a medic with the U. S. Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he was a farmer and rancher in Eden, TX. Upon moving to Lamar County he began a career with B & W that spanned twenty-five years before his retirement in 1990. Jim had attended Westwood Church of Christ and College Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, on Aug. 31, 1990, after forty-nine years of building family and memories. He was also preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” Spiller in 1998, and by seven siblings. Survivors include his wife, Veleria “Val” Skeen Stiff Spiller, two daughters, Prue Whitaker & husband Phil of Paris and Pat Spiller of Livingston, grandchildren; Cae Cobb, Jay Crowell & wife Brandi, Billy Spiller, Charles Spiller, John Spiller and Julie Spiller, great grandchildren; Clayton Cobb & wife Abby, Colby Cobb, Colton Cobb, Caden Crowell and Chelbi Crowell, one sister, Berniece Wittkopf of Hastings, MN along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
