

Kathryne M. Crook, 93, of Paris, Texas passed away July 24, 2016, at Cottonwood Creek Healthcare Community in Richardson, Texas. Mrs. Crook was born on February 1, 1923, in Chicota, Texas, the fifth of ten children and oldest daughter of James Weaver McEwin and Kitty Bell (Lynch) McEwin. She attended Chicota public schools, Paris Junior College, and East Texas State University (Texas A&M-Commerce). She was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, woman’s page editor of The Paris News, Sixth Grade teacher at First Ward Elementary School, and Counselor at Crockett Middle School, all in Paris. She taught women’s Sunday school classes for many years at First Baptist Church in Paris. Mrs. Crook was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers’ Sorority, Northeast Texas Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Bob) N. Crook, Jr. and wife, Tory, of Richardson, and David Crook and wife, Rebecca, of Mission. Mrs. Crook is also survived by her three grandchildren, Tom Crook and his wife, Heather, Elizabeth Hunter and her husband, Mark, Daniel Crook and his wife, Joanna. Also surviving her are her four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Crook, Emily Hunter, Caleb Crook and Laura Hunter. She is survived by her sister, Myrna Hutchison Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Robert N. Crook, Sr., her parents, and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28 at Bright-Holland Funeral Home, with the Reverend Ken Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to Ms. Nancy Murphy for her loving care of Mrs. Crook during the last several years of her life. Mrs. Crook was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandomother, loyal and supportive sister and aunt. Her hospitality was legendary; she found it as easy to cook for twenty as for two; her home was a favorite gathering place for her family and friends. They always counted on her for unconditional love, a warm hug, wise advice, and a place to go in times of trouble. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
