May 11, 1940March 7, 2019

Linda Lou Baker Flanary passed away peacefully at her home while listening to her Tribute CD, a collection of her piano music, on March 7, 2019.

The family has scheduled a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a member, with Dr. Eric Moore officiating. Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home.

Linda was born on May 11, 1940, to Margaret and Edwin Baker. She was reared in Paris and attended Paris schools. She married Billy Keith Flanary on June 25, 1960.

After their marriage, Linda and Bill moved to Austin where she began her career as an executive secretary, working for three Secretaries of State: Crawford Martin, John Hill and Roy Barrera. Upon their return to Paris in the 1970s, Linda worked as Bill's legal secretary until his retirement from the practice of law in 2017.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her son, Michael Sean Flanary, of Dallas, and her daughter, Linda Michelle Flanary, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, a brother, Bill Baker and wife Brenda of Tucson, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her special friend and caretaker, Susan Dodd, of the home.

Throughout Linda's life, music was her love. An accomplished pianist, Linda accompanied the Paris Community Choir, and played for the First Baptist Church as well as Immanuel Baptist Church. She accompanied the Paris Junior College Chorale and studied piano under the tutelage of Jennie Vaughan until her retirement. In 1988. The Sanctuary Five, a gospel singing quartet, was formed with Bill as the lead singer, along with Roy Gibson, Dr. Ed Shaeffer and Glen Books with Linda as their accompanist.

Linda was a long-time member of the Tempo Music Club and enjoyed playing the piano with her fellow members.

The family would like to thank her doctor, Ashfaq Tapia, M.D., and Platinum Hospice, most particularly, Cindy and Rachel. Mark and Pam Boswell have assisted whenever needed and were always available to help Linda. Bill & Brenda Baker have been a pillar of support in both faith and guidance. Bonnie Wulff was invaluable, sharing her love, knowledge and care for Linda. Linda will be dearly missed by her many friends and by all those she touched with her music, faith and love for life.

My memories of Linda bring a smile to my face as she was a very special lady and so generous with her musical talent. We were both piano students of Thetis Williams and played duets on recitals together. My prayers are with you and may you know peace. Sincerely, Martha Mackey Smith

I was five years old when you came into our lives. I will never forget how beautiful you were and the sweetness that stayed with you for the next 60 years. Your goodness brought joy to all of the Flanary family and I am proud that you and I were close. I will miss your sweet voice, your beautiful smile and your giving spirit. You are an angel, now, but what I know is that you always were.

Michael & Missy: so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I truly loved both your parents. Your mom had a beautiful face & soul. My daughter Stacy has such fun memories of spending time at your house......your dad was the main entertainment!! I will not be able to attend the service but please know you will be in my thoughts & prayers. What a reunion your parents are having.

Linda Flanary shared her beautiful talent of playing the piano for Paris Community Choir. As I had the honor to get to know Linda during PCC...she invited me to visit Tempo Music Club with her one night. I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience this wonderful time with a group of ladies who enjoy music so much. I am grateful that Linda invited me as I have come to love the time I spent with Linda and the other ladies of Tempo Music Club. They welcomed these newbie into their group with out stretched arms and I love the time I get to spend with them in our enjoyment of music.

Linda, you have a special place in my heart and I will always remember the times I had the honor to sit by you at Paris Community Choir rehearsals.
I enjoyed the beautiful music you played that came from your beautiful heart. Thank you for all your kindness...all my love, Angeli Hartliep
