Grandpa was a true cowboy.  He had his cowboy hat, boots and wranglers on every day and most times a six shooter.  It was because of him that I have a love of the old west and the ranching life style. Every time I watch a John Wayne film I think of you grandpa and remember you were a big strong man that takes care of business no matter the task, sometimes with hard words and meaning and sometimes with love and wonderful gentleness.  I have so many fond memories of grandpa that I could spend a week typing and never get them all on paper.  Some of my favorite memories are of having cook outs on the ranch or at his house in Pattonville.  At grandpas house we always had steak and sausage.  I still only season my steak with McCormick's cause that's what grandpa did. Never will my steak taste as good as his.   He taught me how to pick out the best steak and which ones to leave on the shelf.  I remember many times with him and dad standing at the meat counter just to look and wish we had a big steak to eat.  I can skin and process an animal because of what I learned from grandpa and from what he taught my dad.  No matter what we were doing he always was teaching me something valuable for my life in the current and in the future.  I learned how to hide water in a bush out close to where we would be bailing or cutting hay, just in case you needed it later.  And sometimes we did need water and he always had some available.  Never did I out fish my grandfather. Any time we fished and I thought I would win some how he would out do us all. Once on a stripper fishing trip he not only caught the biggest fish of the day but he also caught a fishing rod and reel off the bottom of the lake. Always I received love form grandpa.  He never left without a hug and a kiss no matter how old either of us got.  This is another life lesson to always love and be proud of your family. I miss you my friend and hope to live a life so we can be together and celebrate again.  I am so thankful for your testimony of the Gospel and your belief in Jesus Christ.  This helps mine and I know we will see each other again. You leave a legacy of love and family and we will never forget you. I love you.

Grandpa was the kind of person that anyone would want to be around. He would make you laugh and tell you endless stories from his life. Many memories were made when they lived in their Pattonville home. Grandpa and Grandma would let us come over at any given time and let the youngest of the grand kids at that time, Mark, Amy, and I, always come over and spend the night. Grandma would put up a tepee for us to sleep in in the front room, but some nights we all ended up in bed with Grandpa and Grandma! He never complained! Grandma would always have tootsie rolls for us when we came, and EVERY one that we ate, we took the wrapper and put it in grandpa's cowboy boots! He pretended that he never saw us do in and would always act surprised when he put his boots on. Grandpa and Grandma have a tradition of taking each of their grandchildren on a trip somewhere. In 2008, Grandpa took David and I back to his Roots in Idaho. He took us to see the home that he grew up in and the land that they owned by the Tetons Mountain Range. It was a small log cabin with a sod roof. They took us by their Leadore home where many of the stories Grandpa told took place. It was one of the best trips I have been on and will always remember. The most memories I have of Grandpa are the one of where they live now. During the summer, many hours have been spent at his house. We would come for the pool and the stories. After swimming, we tried to save enough time afterwards to go in the house and let Grandpa tell us one of his stories or one of his many poems before we went home. I will always cherish these memories and many more I have not shared. I know that because of the gospel and the Atonement of Jesus Christ will one day all live together as a family again. I love you Grandpa!

Grandpa I love you and miss you.  But we can only imagine the reunion you are having.  I know the stories have been non-stop.   I truly miss that about you.  Our children have been so enthralled with Grandpa's life and how he lived like a Mountain man.  I think the boys still have dreams of killing deer and elk in the mountains where he grew up. He always told me I was his favorite daughter-in-law.  That always made me feel so special even though I was the only daughter-in-law!!!!!!   He treated me like one of his own from the minute I joined the family.  He would come to our home and hide out when he didn't want to do the honey dos that Grandma had for him.  We loved it.  Grandma would eventually call and ask if he was there and he would have to go home.  But we had lots of special times with him and hiding out.  He also brought treats every time he went to the store.  Grocery stores were one of his favorite places to go and we got all the cool reduced bin goodies and every other treat he found that was a good deal.  The kids each got a dollar if he pulled out their tooth.  He always got that job.  He was always close when someone needed a blessing and one time I asked Grandpa if he could give me a blessing with just he and I.  It was one of the most special blessings I received and I keep it close to my heart and his words bless me when things get tough.  I loved the fish fry's in Idaho and shooting pot guts with Kerry and Dad.  It was a happy day when we got to kill a beef and cut it up and wrap it, because we ate a lot of deer and antelope.  We finally convinced him to get us some beef.  Now I wish for some of his deer and his deer jerky too.  I am so grateful to be a part of the Lorin Murdock Family. Grandpa and Grandma took each of our children on trips with them.  Those memories are all time favorites.  He loved to eat out and we got to share in that adventure. He and Kerry put on their guns and holsters and hats and boots every morning we lived in Idaho. You just don't see that anymore. I can still see him riding his little motor cycle to do the water and dragging his feet.I loved to ride to the top of the big hill on the ranch and look over the whole place.  One of my favorites was when he would come in and say there is a cow calving and we would all get to run to the barn and watch the miracle. He has blessed my life and the lives of our children and grandchildren.  His testimony will always be a great example to me.  Grandma and Grandpa were meant for each other and the family they have created will carry on their traditions in living and loving and playing together.  I am so grateful we are sealed together for ever.  Grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ that gives us that opportunity.  I look forward to eternities together.  I love you. Love Sandra

Uncle Lorin was a wonderful uncle. He told  very funny stories and always had something kind and encouraging to say. His laugh was contagious and unique! I loved his example of staying strong and positive in spite of trials. His faith never wavered and he was a spiritual giant.  He'd always greet us with a hug and a kiss, and was so happy to see us.  I'm so happy that I was able to come to Texas for a visit a few years ago with my sister and a few cousins. And again, being able to come to the funeral services and for Aunt Dorothy's continued love and welcoming ways. Mark loved his visit a couple of years ago when he came for a quick visit as well.  Uncle Lorin always wanted Mark to bring his hunting dogs and come hunt with him.  We're sorry we never got that done. We love you all very much and our love and prayers are with you all!

     My memories of my brother Lorin are all good and fun times.  We grew up together, he was two years older than I was, so we did a lot of things together.  Our home was a good happy place to live.  With 10 children there wasn't very many quiet moments.  I always looked up to Lorin as my big brother, protector and friend. I remember all our school days when we rode horses to school and also we rode in wagons pulled by horses in the winter time. In the summertime our parents took us in their Chevrolet car. 
     When Lorin was in the 5th grade and I was in the 4th grade, our oldest sister Jean taught school in Canyon Creek. Our parents sent Lorin and I to live with her so that she wouldn't have to live alone in that remote area.  We had lots of good times and made good memories there. The rattlesnakes were thick on the canyon walls so we always had to watch out for them.  
     One of my happy memories was when Lorin married his sweet wife Dorothy Hutto and she became my new sister. I always admired the way that Lorin and Dorothy raised their family.We loved when the lived in Leadore Idaho, and we could visit each other quite often.  They have such a good sweet family.  
     I love you all, Dorothy and family, and am so glad we got to come down to Texas for the funeral.  I hope we can get together again the next few years.  You are all in my prayers always. Lots of Love, Donna.

Grandpa was an amazing man! He was so kind, giving and loving! I feel extremely blessed to have grown up 1 mile from my grandparents! Here are my favorite memories I wanted to share ( in no particular order) : 
1.During the summer months we stopped by grandma and grandpa's house everyday to pick grandpa up to do hay. They always kept a full tootsie roll jar on the top of their refrigerator and we could grab handfuls to stuff in our pockets to eat while we were working :) Sometimes we would play tricks on gramps and put some tootie rolls down his boots.. It was fun to get a reaction out of him when he would put his boots on :) 
2. Grandpa had an awesome laugh. When he was telling stories or saw something funny happen he would laugh so hard. His belly would shake and tears would be coming out of his eyes. He had the best laugh ever! 
3. When we took our special trips with grandpa and grandma.. He always made sure at every gas stop we got a soda or a treat if we wanted one. Traveling was so fun with them. One time we went to sea world in San Antonio and we left the park late to get the color of trolley that we needed so we had to walk to the next trolley stop of and we ended up walking like 3 miles.. We were so tired when we got back to the hotel but we had many laughs :) I also go to Navoo with Gramps, Grams, and Cherie. This was my favorite trip with them! Grams and Gramps taught me a lot about our ancestors and the pioneers. Grandpa and grandma have a lot of knowledge about the church so I learned a great deal from them. I loved seeing Adam on Diamon, Kirkland temple, Carthage Jail and Navoo! I couldn't help but cry from the over whelming presence of the Spirit when we went to Carthage. Thanks for such an amazing testimony builder! In Navoo, we stayed in this awesome house and when the pageant started all the had to do was walk out our back door and get our seats! I loved watching all the plays, watching the band march by and making a ring and brick with them! On the way home we stopped at a precious moments store.. I don't think grandpa really wanted to but he made grams and I so happy by stopping there to enjoy one of our favorite things :) 
4. Grandpa made the best deer jerkey I have ever tasted! When I went over there I would sneak in his dehydrator and eat a piece.. Whether it was done or not.. Gramps didn't care :) He would see me eating on it and he would say.. Go get you a handful and bring it with you!! Not only did he make the best Jerkey but he was the grill master! I loved cooking out as a family over and the ranch house and just visiting, racing grandma to the fences, playing volleyball and listening to grandpa's stories. 
5. Grandpa just told you what was on his mind at times. He would tell me all the time " you need to put some meat on your bones" This always made me feel good and Skinny :) I was 7 months pregnant with Bentley and he would tell me.. "Getting a little hefty Rachel. You have put on some weight.." " yes I have grandpa.. I have your favorite great grand baby inside of me." After having the baby, letting him meet Bentley for the first time and visiting grandpa for the last time... He made me feel better about my weight gain by telling me "you need to put some meat on your bones"! I always loved that saying!! 
6. Gramps always carried "pinks" in his pocket at church. If you gave him a kiss you could get a Good and Plenty.. I always asked him for a pink one :)
7. Grandpa loved getting kisses and hugs! He always wanted a kiss on the lips and a big bear hug! He was so loving! I loved giving him kisses and hugs!! 
8. I loved having my turn sleeping over at their house. I loved playing games for hours! Grandpa always seemed to win.. I would also go snuggle in bed with them! 
9. I loved our visits on the phone weekly! I loved to hear him say " I love you" or "When are you coming to visit" 
10. After Grandpa passed away I was struggling emotionally because we had a great relationship. I received a really cool blessing that brought me so much peace! I was told he is whole and was received with a joyous reunion! He is whole! In the blessing I was told he was smiling down on me! I wasn't sure if I was coming to the funeral or not because of sick kids but it specifically told me grandma needs my support and love. I have always put family first and continue by going to see family now. It was such a spiritual blessing that brought so much peace .

There are so many memories I have from stockings filled with Jerkey or tricking gramps that I was voting for Hillary Clinton ( I got a good reaction from that ) and they all can't be listed! But how blessed I am to have such an amazing man in my life! Grandpa was a spiritual giant! He loved the Lord and he would strive daily to be like him! He helped teach us to be like the Savior and the importance of living a righteous life! He will always be an example to me! I love you grandma and gramps! I am blessed to be your granddaughter! Can't wait to have many more memories and much more laughter in Heaven. Till we meet again Gramps! I love you!

Young Elder Murdock was the missionary that was working with the Davis Family in Portland, TX back in the 1970's.  His death made me realize how fast our life could be over. We joined the church in 1976.  I met the "older" Brother Murdock after his son's death.  He was quite an inspiration to me.  We became friends as we corresponded and talked on the phone.  I feel they are responsible for my two sons, Brian and Bradley, being brought up in the LDS church and for serving a mission in good faith in the 1990's.  Dorothy and Lorin were both in attendance for each of the boys' endowments and this picture shows us in 2003 during their visit to Bay City, TX.  I may not have known them on a day to day basis as so many others have; but, I feel we have a spiritual bond that will continue as we each leave this earth. I pray that the Murdock family will be able to continue sharing those wonderful stories of what a fine person Lorin has been during their life.  I feel blessed for having been a small part of their life.

Grandpa was always someone you could consider your best friend! He made me feel loved and cherished each time that I saw him. I am blessed at this time to live in Grandpa and grandma's house and it is so neat to be able to open a cupboard or a closet and still get the smell of the house that was a second home. I loved spending the night with Grandpa and Grandma. I will never forget the time that Grandpa reached down to get some crackers out of the box and there were ants all over them, so Grandpa being Grandpa just shook them off and went right on eating the box of crackers!! Thanks Grandpa for letting us fill your boots with Tootsie Roll papers! I'm sure it just gave you a little extra cushion! Anytime we had a family get together, we always requested Grandpa's banana pudding. It was the best! I want to carry on that tradition for Grandpa. I loved hearing Grandpa's stories of him as a boy. He told such detail that it made me feel like I was there with him. He had so many stories and could tell them forever! We also couldn't have a get together without  begging to hear Grandpa recite one of the many poems or songs he knew. Grandpa and Grandma the love and remembrance will always be with our family anytime those poems and stories are told. Thank you always encouraging our family to be happy and full of laughter! I love you and am so grateful for the Atonement that ensures that we will be together again with our whole family! Where the laughter and love will never end but be forever!

  When we went to see Uncle Lorin, you always knew that you would be greeted with a big hug, kiss and a, "Sure do love you! How are you?" Uncle Lorin loved his family. He loved spending time with them. It didn't really matter what we did when we were together, he just liked being together. He cared about other people and always wanted things to be good for them. He helped out whenever he could.
  Uncle Lorin respected and loved my mother. He always did what she told him to do. I always admired the special love that a brother and sister had for each other. It started early in life and lasted their whole lives. What an example for all of us.
  I am glad for the many times we had to spend with Uncle Lorin and his family. Our lives are truly blessed for having known him. May his strength carry on in each of you.

Uncle Lorin always made me feel like I was important.  Now that I am an adult, I realize that he did that for everyone. 

As a child, he was a little larger than life, with his six-shooter, hat, and hip-boots.  When I was with him, I felt a little larger too.  In school, I was always too skinny, too short, and too weak, but Uncle Lorin made me feel like I could contribute. He made me feel like me being around was actually helping him.  I can still remember the smell of his pick-up as we drove through the sage brush.  He would ask me to get out and open and close the gates.  To this day, anytime I open a gate for a vehicle to drive through I think of those times.

Often guns where a part of being with Uncle Lorin.  I was with him on several occasions when he would start shooting.  I do not ever remember him missing what he was aiming at whether it was fish in the stream or prairie dogs.

He always knew what would capture my attention. One year I returned home with a somewhat "tanned" bull tail that he had prepared after a slaughtering one of the cows.  I was so proud of that tail. On another occasion, we where walking through the pasture and he stooped down and picked up a rock.  He commented that it would make a good tomahawk.  Ten minutes later, I was toting around a real tomahawk made out of the rock, a green tree limb and a piece leather strap.  I still have those mementos.  They remind me of a special time with a great man.

My ancestors were poor farmers from east Texas, but somehow having Lorin Murdock as my uncle connected me to the heritage of the wild west, and the Mormon Pioneers.  Uncle Lorin told stories of outlaws, Indians, and pioneer miracles.  I am still fascinated by the mountains and the west. 

The time I spent with Lorin Murdock shaped my personality and contributed to my self worth as a young man.  I will be forever grateful for his influence in my life.  

As I am now an uncle myself, I try to live up to the example Uncle Lorin set for me.  I ask myself, "Can I be the type of uncle he was to me?"  Sadly, the answer always comes: "No one can fill those boots."

We received word from Sylvia Russell that Lorin passed on June 16th. We send our condolences and best wishes. He was one of my very favorite people of those we met in Paris. I wish I could have had another memory session with him of the early days in Teton Basin. An amazing life when you think of all he accomplished, especially his family and service to the Lord. We are better people for having known the Murdocks of Texas. May the Lord bless you and yours, always.

My daughter Angela asked me if I remembered my life without Lorin in it. I had to think back a long time to tell her the first thing I remember about Lorin. I was 5 years old. He was a young missionary, his companion was Elder Losee. Mother had absolute faith in missionaries to do what was right and to bring the proper Spirit with them. Elder Murdock and Elder Losee were often in our home for dinner and I remember how much fun it was to see them. Elder Murdock always had stories to tell about his life in Idaho. I was sick a lot with kidney infections and Mother had taken me to the doctor so many times. One time when the missionaries came to dinner, I was very ill. Mother had complete faith that I would be healed if the missionaries would just give me a blessing. She asked Elder Losee to anoint and Elder Murdock to give the blessing. Elder Murdock had never given a blessing of healing before me and was a little unsure but Mother did not doubt his power of the Priesthood. He gave me a blessing of healing, I recovered from the infection and I have never had another kidney infection since that time. Lorin asked me a few years ago if I remembered that blessing. He told me I was the first person he had ever given a blessing for healing, I told him he must have done what the Lord wanted him to do because I was healed of that illness. Lorin was a wonderful example to me all my life of choosing the right and following the Priesthood. Over the years he gave me more blessings, but that first one has always been in my mind and showed me the kind of man Lorin was. He never disappointed!!! The Hutto family was blessed to have him in our lives and I feel in my heart that we were better because of him and the example he set. Lorin, we love you, Patricia

My memories of Uncle Lorin are very cherished.  I was saddened to hear of his passing.  He always had a funny story or kind word to share.  I remember visiting them on their ranch in Leadore and having many good times with him and Aunt Dorothy and family.  I remember when he was bishop he invited all the extended family members to attend church on Sunday in Leadore so they could boost the attendance of their ward to qualify for their next phase building addition. Not surprisingly, many, many family members made the trip and I believe they got the building addition they needed.  There was nothing the family would not do for each other.  I will always remember Uncle Lorin in the best of ways.  Aunt Dorothy, my love and prayers go out to you and your family.  Wish we could have been there to support you in this time of loss.  I am grateful for a loving heavenly Father who provides a way for families to be eternal.  My family sends their love to all.

I remember when Grandpa took me out to teach me how to shoot his "6-shooter."  We spent most of the day wandering around the fields of the ranch trying to shoot grasshoppers off the tops of the grass!! It was always really fun being with Grandpa!

Another wonderful memory I have is on the old red four wheeler. Behind the house in Texas they had a pond called the Catfish Pond, and we would take feed and ride up to the pond, rev up the four wheeler and here would come the fish swarming toward the bank and causing the whole pond and causing waves in the tiny pond!

Grandpa Murdock. I will miss you greatly. Your smile and laugh and story telling were a large part of my childhood. Those memories I will cherish. It is a comfort to me to know that you are back with our Heavenly Father and loved ones who have already left this earth. There are many memories I have but three things come to my mind when I think of grandpa! 1. Pinks! Grandpa always carried around Pinks in his pocket. He is the reason I love black licorice. It was always fun especially on Sunday's to go raid grandpas pockets. Aaron now carries on that tradition :) 2. Teaching though story telling. Just like President Monson, some of the best lessons grandpa taught me were through stories. Jack the Rancher was one of my favorites. Sitting around the campfire over at the ranch listening to grandpa tell stories was a common occurrence and those stories have stuck with me. 3. High on a Mountain Top. I always think of grandpa when I hear this song. He loved it. Music is a big part of my testimony and wonderful songs like this only strength it.
I will miss you grandpa. I love you and can't wait till we are together again in the eternities.

I first met Lorin  in the fall of '79, I accompanied his wife's cousin on a hunting trip to Idaho. Hunting in the mountains had always been a dream of mine since being infected with a love for the mountains by my dad at an early age.  We drove straight from Silsbee, TX to Leadore arriving on Sunday.  The family was at church so we explored, trying to take it all in.  I realized I was still on "hurry up and get it done" time with all the time constraints and pressures of things that could not wait.  My mind and spirit quickly fell into the rhythm of ranch life. From my first introduction to Lorin, Dorothy & the family I was drawn into the family and treated like kin. They were living a life I had always longed for and still do, not an easy life but a good one.  I was constantly looking for ways to be adopted into this wonderful family. At times when meeting new people it takes years to develop a relationship of trust and respect.  With Lorin, by the end of the trip I felt I had found a friend for life and it has proven to be so for 37 years. I've spent many wonderful days at the ranch, times I will never forget.  I met Kerry after his mission trip and took pleasure in finding ways to get him in trouble with his mother and later his wife. One morning while working the cows we spotted two skunks and I was able to kill one.  We carefully approached the skunk and no smell, so I very carefully began skinning the skunk.  Still no smell, but Lorin said we were probably "skunked up" and our sense of smell was gone.   As you can see from the picture all turned out well.  In my mind I can still hear Lorin's voice and laughter.  I was like everyone who met him, fascinated and delighted by his stories of his life.  Everyone has their Lorin Murdock stories that will not be forgotten. I was always fortunate to arrive just in time, summer or fall, to help work the cattle or change the water in the creeks.  Truth is, I would make the drive from Texas to Idaho to just work and spend time with this fine man and his family.  Although I could go on for hours, I will close with these facts I know to be true.  Lorin Murdock was the quintessential cow man, rancher, and mountain man.  He was born a hundred years too late. He was a loving family man, a man of honor, and most importantly, a man of God.  He was my friend and I loved him and will always feel the loss until we meet again.

He was always one of my favorite persons in Paris Tx. He always had a lovely way to say hi to me and may kids, he will be miss.

Lorin Murdock is someone that had a very positive influence in our lives.  Angel became acquainted with him when he married Dorothy, who is Angel's third cousin.  They later moved to the Silsbee, Texas area where they lived for several years. Since they attended the Silsbee Ward, a closer relationship was created and developed.  Richard got to know Lorin when he and Angel married in 1963.  When Richard joined the Church in 1967, Lorin played a major role in helping Richard learn more about the Church and became a devoted friend and confidant.  When Richard was called as bishop in 1971, Lorin served as a counselor to him until they moved to Leadore. Richard relied heavily on Lorin's wisdom as a counselor.  When we were planning to be sealed in the temple in 1969, it was realized that our vehicle may or may not make it to Salt Lake.  Somehow word got to Lorin about that.  He came to Richard and said that it was so important for us to be sealed, that we could borrow a vehicle from him and go to Salt Lake. We did decide to get another vehicle. So, we did not have to rely on Lorin's gracious offer.  I don't know if Dorothy ever knew about that, but we will never forget it.  In 1978 we went to visit them in Leadore.  What a grand time we had.  One night during our visit, Lorin set up a night fishing trip in the Lemhi river which ran  through their property.  He also invited Bishop Petersen (?) to come.  Supposedly we were to gig the fish while using a lantern and gig.  In the process we were wading in waist deep water with Lorin holding the lantern and Bishop Petersen and I following him.  All of a sudden Lorin says "what is that shining in the moonlight".  Bishop Petersen said "I don't know, but it could be the game-warden's truck".  Lorin then said "get down as low as you can in the water, and maybe the game-warden will not see us".  Needless to say my stomach got into my throat, and I could not imagine what might happen if it were the game-warden.  After a few minutes of stooping as low as we could in the rather cool water,  Bishop Petersen said "oh you know what, that is my truck.  I forgot I had parked that far down when I came in".  There was loud laughter by them, and a big sigh of relief from me.  I never really knew whether that was a planned set-up or if it really happened as explained.  Either way I will never forget that experience.  During that same visit I was exposed to eating "mountain oysters" for the first time.  They were very good, and I have eaten them several times since then.  The only regrets that we have is that we did not get to be around Lorin and Dorothy that much after that visit.  The occasional visit every year or so when they came to our area was the extent of seeing them.  We will always remember Lorin and the good example he was to both of us.  Dorothy, may the Lord's choicest blessings be with you.  Thanks to the both of you for the positive impact you had in our lives.

He was a great and kind full person. Didn't get to know him that much, but he always had a Hello and a hand shake, with a loving smile. I know that he will be missed for now, but all will be together again. I love this family!!

We both have lost our husbands to lengthy illnesses and know the heartache you are experiencing. My mom first met Lorin when he served a mission here in southeast texas many years ago. We have known the Hutto family before Lorin and we were thrilled when he and his sweetheart married and became part of us here.We love the Hutto and Murdock families.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through these difficult days ahead.

Dear Aunt Dorothy & Family, (Kerry, Cherie, Kelly and families)  I always planned  on coming back for another visit before Uncle Loring passed.  In fact this Aug. It is scheduled.  I have to pick up my son Andrew Lee in Oklahoma City and then we will travel south.  I am deeply sorry I will miss him and that I cannot attend his funeral this week.  Several of my siblings are coming but I need to be here to help my daughter Rayni after surgery.  Please know I love and honor Uncle Lorin and am so glad for the continued relationships in the erernities to come.  I love spending time with your family as no day was alike and never was the feelings of love absent.  One of my memories of recent years was after you moved to Texas and on a visit Uncle Lorin taught me how to make southern banana pudding.   He was just cute instructing me on the finer art of cooking, like I never cooked in my life.  His testimony of Jesus Christ was so strong and his kindness and concern was genuine.  He was a friend to all and a good neighbor.  I loved him deeply  and loved his sense  of right and wrong and humor.  Thank goodness for a sense of humor he use to say to me .  Laugh, especially at yourself, he told me.  Trust in the Lord, he told me and Do not doubt.  May God send his grace and peace to each of you to help you in this time of sorrow.  My love to you all.  Hope to still see you in August.

I absolutely loved spending time with Uncle Lorin when I was growing up. My best memories are of the summers I spent in Leadore. I remember one summer when Uncle Lorin, Aunt Dorothy, Cherie, and Kelly had come down to Texas. It was time for them to go back to Idaho and I was crying because I didn't want them to leave. Aunt Dorothy said that I should go back to Idaho with them and to my surprise my mom said okay. I remember sitting in the front seat next to Uncle Lorin as we were driving to Idaho and listening to his stories. I could listen to his stories for hours. He taught me how to milk a cow, ride a horse (Tarzan), and catch rainbow trout. The time I spent with him was priceless. I will always treasure the memories I have of him. There are no words to express the love I have for him.

Lorin asked me one time if I could ever remember a time when I did not know him, and I told him "no," that he had always been a part of my life.  I am very thankful for that; he was such a big part of my life and very important to our family.  Lorin was so good to us and we knew he loved us--he made us feel that way.  When I was very young, our family moved to Idaho and lived with him and Dorothy and Lorin Lee and Kerry.  Dorothy said he wanted us to stay there forever, and I knew that also.  He was such a kind man and one of the most loved men I have ever known.  He had a good way with people.  When Patricia and I were young and went with Lorin and Dorothy to a movie or out to eat, he always wanted to pay our way.  When Drue and I were in school, he often asked if we needed money; he meant to give it to us if we said "yes."  As we had children, he told wonderful stories and poems to them and they always wanted to hear them.  If a measure of a man has much to do with how much his family and children, including mine, wanted to be with him, and loved him, then he must be a giant.  I love you Lorin!  Thanks for all the good times, and especially thank you for all you did for Drue and I and our children.  I thank Heavenly Father you were, and still are, in our life.  Much love, Elaine

I have very fond memories of my Uncle Lorin.  He taught me how to milk a cow when I was only nine at his ranch in Ledor.  I also rode a horse, Tarzan, for the first time. Uncle Lorin was never at a loss for words.  He was sure to tell me that I walked crooked and had a mustache. I could always depend on Uncle Lorin to point out the obvious :).  He had the most entertaining stories and we loved listening to him tell them for hours.  I wish my children could have known him the way I did. He was a man of great faith and he often testified of the many miracles that he witnessed through out his life.  My Uncle Lorin will be greatly missed. We love you Uncle Lorin.

I remember him telling stories of Idaho and moving to Texas.  He said there was this good looking woman he met and how he was lucky to marry her.   I remember getting to play dominos with him and family to hear more fun stories of him and his kids.  He said that family sticks together and looks out for one another and loves one another no matter if good or bad days.  He was so funny and I will miss talking to him and seeing him at church he always made an effort to talk to me. I was lucky to have crossed paths with a great man

I was so sorry to hear that Uncle Lorin has moved on. I want to express my sympathy to Aunt Dorothy and all of Lorin's Children and Grandchildren, I know he will be missed by all.  I have so many great memories of growing up and having fun times with uncle Lorin, fishing, hunting, shooting birds off the telephone wire setting on Grampa Murdocks front step, eating squirrel to see how it tasted or  just having a good visit.  A good man, who will be missed by many. I Love you always Uncle Lorin, Aunt Dorothy and you family.  Ray Nash

words can not express my sympathy for Lorin's family. I knew Lorin well. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.  He was the best.

We were so lucky to have Lorin as our Bishop in Leadore! He helped us get our beautiful church building that has been such a blessing in our community! May you find comfort in the coming days! Love and miss all of you!
