

Mattie Marie Hervey, 92, of Hopewell, went to be with the Lord and beloved family members who preceded her death on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Brentwood Terrace Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, November 13, 2015, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randall Scott and Reverend Eric Moore officiating. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 pm, Thursday, at the funeral home. Mrs. Hervey was born May 20, 1923 in Lamar County to W.C. Crabb and Ida Myrtle Westbrook Crabb. She married Ben E. Hervey on December 21, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2002, after having built together, over 62 years of family and memories. She is survived by one daughter, Janice Nations & husband Eddie; one very special grandson, Rickey Cockrum & wife Donna; great-grandchildren, Melissa Dean, Justin Mayer, Derek & Christopher Cockrum, Marci Thompson and Chad Nations; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister, Hugh (Bog) Wilson & Bonnie Wilson; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Crabb, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Mrs. Hervey was a longtime, faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was “Mimi Granny” and “Gauky Mat” to a lot of kids. Mrs. Hervey retired from Belk Department Store in 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Willie Ed Crabb and J.C. Crabb and two sisters, Mildred Howard and Ann Thompson. Pallbearers will be, Wayne Tomblin, Larry Crabb, William Wood, Mike Middleton, Tommy Parker, Marty Hicks, Johnny Tidwell and Byron Dennis. Along with floral memorials the family requests memorials be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1771 Bonham St., Paris, Texas 75460 or a charity of one’s choice. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Brentwood Terrace Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, especially Feliccia and Esther.
