

Michael Patrick Barnwell, 65, of Lake Creek, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at his home. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8th at First Christian Church in Detroit with memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Lyn Holly and Rev. Richard Pope officiating. Following the memorial service the family will have a fellowship luncheon at the church followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Detroit Cemetery. Mr. Barnwell, the son of Milton Patrick & Charlene Captola Ham Barnwell, was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Clarksville. He graduated from Detroit High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University and his Master’s in Education from North Texas State University. His career in education began in Forney, Texas. He taught speech therapy and wood shop before obtaining his Masters in School Administration. He retired from the Marshall ISD following a career that spanned 35 years. Michael enjoyed deer and duck hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener. His music collection rivaled any radio station. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ina Beth Barnwell, his grandmother, Mary C. Barnwell and siblings, Mary Drew Gibson of Paris and Frank Barnwell of Cabot, Arkansas. Survivors include two daughters, April Smith and Amy Upchurch both of Carrollton, two grandchildren, Jacob Upchurch and Ava Upchurch, siblings, Ruth Garrison of Detroit, David Barnwell & wife Barbara of Montgomery, Alabama, Neil Victor Barnwell & wife Gail of Bogalusa, LA and Mona Ann Barnwell of Denver, CO along with many nieces & nephews and a plethora of friends.
