Patricia Carolyn (Brown) Currin

Patricia Carolyn Brown Currin, 89, of Paris, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, one day before her 90th birthday. Patricia was born February 11, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, to Dr. Genevieve Shea Brown and Dr. C. Frank Brown. She attended St. Edward and Holy Trinity elementary schools, then graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1950 and Southern Methodist University in 1953. She earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree from SMU in 1978.

In 1953, Patricia married her high school sweetheart, Martin Currin, and they began their married life in Hawaii while Martin served in the Navy during the Korean War. The couple returned to Dallas in 1956.

A schoolteacher for over 30 years, Patricia spent most of her career educating first and second-graders at Forman Elementary School in Plano, instilling her love of reading in thousands of children. She was a reading specialist, helping children with disabilities master this critical skill.

Patricia was a woman of beauty, grace, and kindness who loved her family and her faith above all else. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas, St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plano, and lastly, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church after she and Martin retired to Paris. She loved visiting parishioners to take Holy Communion and pray with them, was a Eucharistic Adorer, and was a member of Our Lady's Guild. Her selflessness was seen through her constant service to her family, friends, students, and community.

Patricia’s most meaningful and loved occupation was that of a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Chris Currin and Holly Hope of Dallas, MaryBeth and Stephen Burns of Paris, Kathleen and Syd Newman of Roxton, Claire and Louis Murad of Garland, and Patrick Currin of Dallas, plus nineteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. Patricia was preceded in death by Martin, her husband of 64 years, three infants, her parents, brother Charles Brown, and sisters Mary Ann Brown and Kathleen Gardner.

Rosary Vigil will be 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024 with visitation until 9:00 pm at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 am on Friday, February 16, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. A Mass and interment will follow at 3:00 pm. in the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Poor Clare Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 809 E. 19th Street, Roswell, New Mexico 88201-7514.
