

Rachel Sprueill Whitney, 93, of Blossom, Texas, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015, at her home while surrounded by loved ones. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27th, at the Blossom United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Leddy & Rev. Michael Woods officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28th, at Greenwood Cemetery in Ft. Worth. Mrs. Whitney, the daughter of Wade Hampton Walling & Ida Partridge Walling, was born July 15, 1922, in Leesburg, Camp County, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University. On May 5, 1942, Rachel married Tommy M. Sprueill, building 31 years of family and memories before his death on Dec. 24, 1973. She then married Jesse Whitney on Jan. 13, 1996, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2001. She was a faithful member of the Blossom United Methodist Church having served as church secretary during the 80’s. Rachel was a past member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Survivors include two children, Ronald Sprueill & wife Cathy of Paris and Charlene Sprueill Barker & husband Troyal of Blossom, grandchildren, Amanda Barker Barnard & husband Britt of Blossom, Vern Barker & wife Kathy of Powderly, Stephen Wade Sprueill & wife Michelle of Forest Grove, OR, Peter Sprueill & wife Marguerite Harper of Golden, CO, Joseph Benjamin Sprueill & wife Stephanie of Katy, Matthew Sprueill-Langlitz & wife Krystle of Carlsbad, NM and Nathan Sprueill-Langlitz of Nashville, TN, great grandchildren, Seth Barnard, Ethan Barnard, Cole Barker & wife Stephanie, Cobi Barker, Chandler Sprueill, Henry Sprueill, Emma Sprueill, Jacob Sprueill, Andrew Sprueill, Matthew Sprueill, Samuel Sprueill, Jared Davis, Nicole Davis and Ava Leigh Sprueill-Langlitz, a sister, Frances Walling Arnold & husband Jim of Albuquerque, NM, a sister-in-law, Louise Campbell Walling of Spring along with numerous nieces & nephews and a plethora of friends. She was preceded in death by a son, John Thomas Sprueill, five brothers, Robert W. Walling, Reginald Walling, Ishmael Walling, J. C. Walling and J. B. Walling and three sisters, Eloise Walling Russell, Beatrice Walling Ressell and Ida Lou Walling Lawson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Meals On Wheels, The Blossom United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the charity of one’s choice.
