Raymond A. Hoover

Raymond A. Hoover, 93, of Pattonville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Smith & Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Highland Cemetery at Deport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. Hoover, the son of Herman Lee & Virgie Dudley Hoover, was born Feb. 12, 1921, in the Jennings Community of Lamar County. On May 9, 1942, he married Frances Ann Finch, building 72 years of family and memories. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. During the war he was in the Leyte invasion. Raymond worked a few years for the Texas Highway Department before beginning his career with B & W which spanned 30 years before his retirement. He was a tireless worker for education in Lamar County, dedicating 25 years of service to the school boards of East Lamar School and then Prairiland ICSD. Raymond was instrumental in forming the Prairiland ICSD by bringing four schools together. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Deport. Mr. Hoover was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had recently received his 60 year pin. Survivors include his wife, Frances, a daughter, Linda Green & husband Larry of Paris, two sons, John Hoover & wife Jill of Pattonville and Larry Hoover & wife Brenda of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren, Shane Morton, Randy Hoover, Lindsay Creighton, Jeff Campbell, Angie Sanders, Mitch Campbell, Daphne Thompson and Denise Smith, eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three sisters, Faye Harper, Margaret Wadley and Hellen Hively along with numerous nieces, nephews and a plethora of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Juanita Russell and two brothers, Dudley Hoover and Lawrence Hoover. Raymond’s grandsons & great grandsons will serve as casket bearers.
