

Roy Jefferson Stewart, Jr., 94, of Paris, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled Cemetery Services, with Masonic Rites at The Evergreen Chapel, in Evergreen Cemetery, at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 1, 2018, with Reverend Curtis Blake officiating. No formal visitation will be scheduled, however, Mr. Stewart will lie in repose at the funeral home until the day of the service. Mr. Stewart was born March 9, 1924 in Paris to Roy Jefferson Stewart, Sr. and Pearl Gaines Stewart. At age seventeen he joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to Pearl Harbor, one week after the attack. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Roy remained in Hawaii and was a policeman for several years. Following his career with the police department, he migrated back to Texas and became a fireman with the Dallas Fire Department, where he eventually retired, after many years of faithful service. Roy was a loyal and active member of the Paris Masonic Lodge #27 where he served as Past Master. He was also a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite and Hella Shrine. Roy was a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Paris. A favorite pastime of his was playing “42”. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred Stewart & Daniel Stewart and five sisters, Ruby Trotter, Judy Stewart, Irene Stout, Katherine Harvey and Sarah Coker. Survivors include his children, JoAnn Henson of Irving, Dottie Ueberroth of Midlothian, Pat Burke of Arlington and Jeff Stewart of Kemah, TX; 5 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
