Donna Colleen Kohmetscher (McKay), born April 14, 1960, passed away on October 8, 2026, following a courageous battle with dementia. Born to Earl and Carol McKay, Donna was a true cowgirl through and through. Her love for horses began at an early age, thanks to her father, who taught her to ride. An exceptional horsewoman, Donna was a rodeo queen, drill team member, team roper, and accomplished team penner. She proudly held the title of Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo Queen in 1980 and earned numerous saddles and belt buckles throughout her years of competition. She loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in Arizona’s White Mountains.
Donna was tough as nails yet carried herself with elegance and grace. She never knew a stranger, made friends wherever she went, and was loved by all who knew her.
Donna married her loving husband, Steve, in 1992. Together, they shared a love for horses, team roping, the outdoors, and, above all, family. Steve remained faithfully by her side, lovingly caring for her until the very end. Donna was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt whose greatest pride was her family. She gave her children a childhood filled with love, adventure, and memories they will cherish forever. She is survived by her husband, Steve Kohmetscher; her children, Wesley, Jodi, and Kalee; her beloved grandchildren; her brother, Ronnie; her sister, Ronda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Carol McKay, and her sister, Diane.
Donna will forever be remembered for her strength, kindness, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for those around her. She lived her life with grit, carried herself with grace, and leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue for generations.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by the family.
