Jeffrey Alan Whitaker, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend, peacefully passed away at home on October 15, 2026. He was born to Clyde and Helen Whitaker on January 18, 1951, in Monterey, California.
Jeff’s family moved to Southern California in the mid-1950’s where he learned to surf as a teenager. Surfing was one of Jeff’s passions, and it brought him much peace and joy. His other passions were playing guitar, singing and songwriting.
Jeff was known as the "hippie” of the family. He would often leave voice messages that began with "Hey, Hey we're the Monkeys," a testament of his love of the hippie era and his love of music, and he often used terms from the 1960s. The Beatles movies, Mr. Ed, and Green Acres were among his favorite movies and shows, which he enjoyed binge-watching up to the time he passed.
Jeff attended Gardena High School and briefly served in the U.S. Army. He went on to work in the construction industry for many years. He joined the crew of a sailboat in the 1980s and sailed to the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of his fondest memories. Jeff also lived in Hawaii in the early 1980s. He retired in the early 1990s and settled in Big River, California, where his parents lived.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Helen Whitaker, and his sister, Debra Weber. He leaves behind: his sister Cheryl Powers, his daughter Azure Cardin, his grandsons Joseph Pupo and Alexander Pupo; and his great-granddaughter Kylie Marie Pupo, along with many cherished cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jeffrey's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring his generous spirit and love for helping others.
