Richard James DiNolfi

Affectionately referred to as The River Rat, White Shorts, and The Shark, Richard James DiNolfi Sr. passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on December 29, 1942, he later relocated to California during his teenage years. There, he attended Santa Fe High School, playing safety on the football team, before enlisting in the Air Force. Upon completing his military service, Richard entered the automatic sprinkler industry, becoming a proud member of LOCAL 709 union.

Richard became a true pioneer in the Automatic Fire Sprinkler trade, establishing his initial company, R&D Fire Protection, back in the 1970s. His dedication inspired numerous family members to follow in his footsteps, leaving a lasting legacy of four companies that continue to operate today—a list he proudly compiled himself. Over the decades, his journey took him to Big Bear City through the '70s and '80s, where he coached and played softball in his spare time.

Then followed by Huntington Beach until his retirement. In the 1990s, he finally settled down by the Colorado River, a special spot he had fallen in love with ever since his first visit with close buddies in the '60s.

Boating was one of Richard's greatest passions, starting out with a big block V8 454 flat bottom. His vessels grew over time to include a Nordic 26-foot day cruiser and his ultimate pride and joy, an Eliminator Eagle featuring a 502 Mercruiser, named "True Companion". Even as he transitioned to more relaxed pontoon boats in his later years, his competitive spirit remained; he would still playfully try to race anyone who dared pass him, always sporting a mischievous grin with a pipe or cigar firmly in place.

Golf stood out as another favorite pastime, and Richard hit the links as frequently as possible throughout his life, rarely missing a Saturday round in Parker. Among his achievements on the course was a memorable hole-in-one at the Industry Hills Golf Club. The Emerald Canyon Men's Club beautifully summarized his devotion, noting that "His love for the game and our club was immense, and his friendship, good spirit, and cranky facade will be missed by all. Richard served as President of the club and spent countless hours working on the course. Won several club championships and shot his age on several occasions.”

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Kelli, alongside his daughters Dawn Michelle and Gina Marie. His legacy continues through his older sister Peggy, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Jake DiNolfi, CJ DiNolfi, Dylan McMillen, and Isabella McMillen. He has now been peacefully reunited on the other side with his favorite son, Richard James Jr. (Ricky), his grandson Anthony Santiesteban, his brother Charles (Sonny), his sister Franny, his mother Pauline and his faithful dog, Dylan.
