Shelby joined the Navy in 1959 and served on the USS Forrestal. After the Navy he served his apprenticeship in carpentry and flooring. He spent several years working for the Marriot Hotel chain.
His greatest passion was fishing. Trout, Red Ear, Bluegill, Bass, and Catfish were among his favorites. Second to fishing he loved to garden. From the tiniest of seeds to lush gardens full of vegetables and flowers, he truly had a "green thumb".
He loved watching old episodes of the Twight Zone, Nascar, CNN, & Meet the Press.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Warner Couch, 2 children Michael & Heather, 1 stepson Jason and grandchildren, Mike Jr., Levi, Chelsie, Ethan, Paisley and Madeline, brother Dan of Benton, Kentucky and sister Betty of Westland, Michigan. Preceding him were sisters, Louise and Marlyn.
Together and Forever, Rest in Peace.
