Stephen (Steve) Wilfred Sanchez was born to Wilfred and Betty (Grijalva) Sanchez on 4 October 1968 and was called to be with the Lord on 7 August 2014. Steve grew up in the cozy town of Pecos, NM, where he enjoyed the beautiful mountainous area and graduated from Pecos High School in 1986. He then graduated from New Mexico State University in 1991 with a bachelor degree in Transportation and Logistics. It was at NMSU where he met his wife Shauna and became the proud father to Roshel. Steve then moved to Lancaster, California and embarked on a musical escapade, traveling worldwide as a security manager for the likes of: Tori Amos, Morrissey, Gloria Estefan, Alanis Morissette and Live. In 2003, he became a father again to a beautiful set of twins: Shyann and Roxion and began a new career in real estate. Steve enriched his family’s life by becoming deeply involved in Desert Vineyard Church and lived out his faith by building homes for the less fortunate in Mexico. His heaven on earth was Parker, Arizona; it was here that Steve savored being on the river and cherished time with his friends and family. Steve had two passions in life: expressing his love for music (via playing the drums) and indulging in water sports on the Colorado River. He will forever be remembered and missed for his charismatic “larger than life” personality, big heart and infectious laughter that brought joy to every atmosphere.

Steve is preceded in death by his father Wilfred, grandparents Willie and Josephine Grijalva and Gillie and Emma Sanchez. He is survived by his wife Shauna, daughters Roshel, Shyann and Roxion, mother Betty, sister Joey (Michael Fabsits) and their two children Wil and Raelen, as well as his two river brothers Albert Sanchez and Michael Smith. He was blessed to have many special aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

The honorary pall bearers are: Albert Sanchez, Michael Smith, Michael Fabsits, Kenny Baca, Anthony Baca, Mark Sanchez, Eddie Sanchez, Jimmy Baca, Michael Flores, Pat Hernandez and Rick Plata.

Steve was an incredibly generous, loving, open-hearted man who made everyone around him feel safe. He will be deeply missed.

The world lost a big heart and big personality when we lost Uncle Steve. There will never be anyone to fill his shoes and he will be sorely missed. He taught us to wakeboard along with Uncle Mike and Uncle Al, though Steve gave us the "you have three strikes" rule when we were trying to get up. That boat always came floating by with the ski rope and there he was shaking his head no from the driver's seat..."that's one!" There's that tough love of his. We're missing him so much. I remember how he really wanted to meet this guy I was going to marry when I got engaged, and it meant a lot when he said "I like you, Lucas." The Steve stamp of approval meant a lot. He was so supportive of us, and our lives, and the things we wanted to do. We're going to miss his laugh, his jokes, his stories about his touring days, fireworks from the boat, watching the sunset from the dock, grilling (we're so crushed Lucas never got to build him his BBQ), and so many other things we won't get to do with him. We had an amazing last river trip with him the 4th of July, 2014 and I'm so glad to know he was so happy and full of joy when we saw him. I'm sad we didn't get more time with him and there are so many plans we made that we hadn't gotten to yet. To the girls and Roshel, the love of his life, Joey & kids, and Betty... our deepest condolences. We love you all and are here for you. We'll always be your family. Thank you for sharing this amazing man with us. We love Steve so much; we're so thankful and blessed for the time and relationship we did have with him. Above all, I'm thankful that I know that man knew Jesus and there's comfort in knowing that we will see him again someday.

Steve was the nicest, friendliest, funniest person ever. We love and miss him so much. We know he is resting in paradise watching over sweet baby Lukas for us. He always had such a caring heart and a true loveable personality. My heart and prayers go out to his family.

Passing can be considered a journey one takes alone with a crowd. Steve knows he has the spirit of family and friends with him. To Shauna, the lovely girls and Family our prayers continue for you. Each of us is here for the other while Steve rests in peace (R.I.P.)

Shocked and saddened by this news. Being on tour with Steve was a pleasure, he was always warm and friendly to be around, and when things got heated he was there to help out and offer support. My sincere condolences to Steve's family.

Steve made this moment possible, brought us in to meet Tori Amos on a rainy day behind Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. He was a really good guy.

I never met Steve personally but saw him twice while at a Tori meet and greet. He was very professional and did his job well. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy goes out to you.
