Many of us who still work for DuPont remember Art as a dedicated leader in process safety in order to provide and improve safety at our high hazard sites across the world.  He was a passionate leader and mentor to many younger people across the company. And he was a great co-worker with a sense of humor.  My deepest condolences to Art's family.  

Wow, I was very surprised to hear about Art’s death, and I send my best wishes to his family. I really appreciated his encouragement to continue learning about our family history and genealogy. He shared many records and photos from the Stiles and Sweet sides of the family with me that he and his mother had collected over the years, and I was impressed how he took great care to verify his research. I will always remember my visit to him and Maryann in West Virginia, and how they showed me around the local area and were great tour guides! I also remember how supportive he was when he drove up to Pennsylvania to attend my mother’s 80th birthday party, he was a calm steady presence when I needed it most. To me he really embodied the best meaning of “gentleman,” and I will miss him very much. 

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Art's passing.  I was a long-term classmate of his.  We met in first grade and graduated together from high school.  Please accept my condolences.  Fondly, Curli (Cheryl) Nye Lempa

You have our most sincere sympathy on this terrible family loss.  We have known Art since the carpool days to and from Drexel (with Jane) through the time at the Test Center (with Frank) and over the years watching each other's kids grow into strong and faithful men.  

His lapse, at such an early age, makes it doubly tragic but knowing him, he would want you to celebrate his life. There are years of happy memories and probably hundreds of pictures to remind you all of those great times.  Cherish those  memories.

And guys....  take good care of your Mom...  she is special too.

Deepest condolences from all the Sweeney family here in Ireland. Very sad news. Art was a great guy. 

Art was an incredibly talented scientist/engineer but also an extremely giving human being.  He had a sincere kindness like that of a life mentor or wise father.  He explained not just facts but what they meant, he shared his life experience but did not talk down to people, and he provided perspective without being pretentious.  His work at Dupont was of such significance that he became a fellow, but his mentorship and example in life has had an even greater impact.  His was an extremely rare and gifted combination of knowledge, humanity, and a sense of humor.  We will all miss him.

Harrison and I are so very sorry for the loss of Arthur Sweet; and send  our deepest sympathy and prayers to  Mary Ann, Shannon, Rob, Katie, Dani  Michael and family and all of the Sweet family members, wherever they may live.
 We  represent the Sweet family from the frozen tundra of the Northeast; in Rhode Island. 
  I had a great time last year, working with Art on a shared interest; the Sweet family genealogy. Also, I always cherished the annual Christmas cards and newsletters. I still have most of them.
 May all of us be comforted  and blessed with our wonderful memories of  Art until we meet him again in Heaven; Amen.

I know I am just one of many people whose life and career has been influenced and inspired by Art.  As my mentor at DuPont Washington Works, his passion and enthusiasm for metallurgy & corrosion was infectious, and is the reason I continue to work in that field today.  Books from his library are still on my shelves.  His work in process safety management was underpinned by his deep, unwavering professional and personal integrity and his genuine care for people.  He was clearly proud of his family, and he and Mary Ann have been so supportive of mine, as we have faced the challenges of our medically fragile, special-needs child.

I feel very blessed to have worked with Art and to have had him in my life.  We extend our sympathy to Mary Ann, Rob, Mike, and the rest of Art's family.  He will be greatly missed.    

My uncle Art was a good generous man who loved his family. He and Mary Anne looked after my nieces and nephew. And they came to my mother's viewing which I really appreciate. Uncle Art with be missed.

Working with Art was a pleasure and a productive endeavor. Whenever there was a project with mechanical aspects, we always wanted to get Art’s ideas and opinions, which he provided in a very calm and respectful manner. He was a great team member. My thoughts and prayers go out to Art’s family.

To the Sweet Family,

I wanted to let you know how sorry both Sharon and I are in your loss.  I will always carry very fond memories of Art and our work together at DuPont.  There are many stories I could relate about Art and our working together in the Process Safety management arena.   They were all good times!  
   Art was best at his work with Mechanical Integrity.  He was the official "guru" for the company in this work!   He not only developed the plans that were used throughout the DuPont company,  but he was also my Co-auditor when we would travel throughout the company checking on how well other sites were implementing their Mechanical Integrity plans. 
I remember especially comforting and praying with Art during those dark times when Robert was shot down in Iraq.  I know that was an extremely difficult time for both Art and the whole family.

I am so sorry that we won't be able to attend the service tomorrow, but because of a recent fall that I had, my doctor has told me not to get involved with any large gatherings until I am fully healed.

Art was a good friend to me and I will truly miss him.   But I will also cherish the memories  of our association and the good times we enjoyed together.     Our prayers are with you all at this time and if we can do anything to help in the future, please contact us.

Mary Ann and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You and Art always held a special place in my heart for having faith in me as I was struggling to start my business years ago. I am not physically able to attend the viewing or service but please know that you and your family will be in our prayers. I care.

Shari & I are saddened to hear of Art's passing.  He was a special person - passionate about his fields of interest & expertise.  We enjoyed our many years of playing social bridge together with he and Mary Ann.  He will be missed.  We will offer our prayers for the repose of his soul, and The Lord's comfort for Mary Ann & his family.  

I am so sorry about Art's passing.  We have been associated with the Sweet family  since we moved to Parkersburg in 1981.  We became friends through Welcome Wagon, as  neighbors, through worship at church,  and as bridge buddies.  We have watched the boys grow into fine and strong young men.  My condolences to the entire family.  I will miss dear, sweet Art.

     Art and I had offices across the hall at the DuPont Washington Works Plant and shared many interesting stories and technical conversations over the years, 
     Art was a very interesting fellow and I remember well his concern when his son was shot down and captured during the invasion of Iraq in the early 1990's.   May he rest in peace.

Art was my first mentor in my engineering career. Being a young black girl from Philly, I didn't feel like it was a match. I'm sure Art thought DuPont was crazy hiring a girl with tattoos and piercings. Ha! The thing about kind, genuine people is they find ways to connect - no matter what their background. We grew on each other and in my short 1.5 years at Washington Works our relationship went from colleagues to trusted friends. For Art's work anniversary one year I wanted to give him something special. He had this old, tattered notebook that he brought to every meeting and used it to collect notes and papers. This thing was on it's last leg and I couldn't believe he hadn't replaced it. Maybe it was his lucky notebook? I surprised him with a shiny, black notebook that came with his name and the DuPont emblem stamped on it. He absolutely loved it and it made me so happy that he did. I don't know if I would have stayed with DuPont for as long as I did if I didn't have such a great first experience with a mentor.  I love you Art! 

Art was a great guy to work with.  He always had a smile, was such a nice guy, and he knew what he was doing, always.  He was so respectful, and always listened to ideas.  You will be greatly missed.  Prayers for all the family and friends.

You are in my prayers.  Art and I were part of a team that earned a DuPont Engineering Excellence Award in June 2003.  I enjoyed working with him.

My dad and I both worked with Art. We both liked him.  He was a good guy.  Condolences to his whole family.  I have good memories of Art.
