
He was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Wood County, a son to the late Frank and Myrtle Florence Lemley Byers. He worked for 40 years with Parkersburg Water Works, and attended Prayer Chapel.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Martha Adella Norman Byers, son, Charles Franklin Byers, daughter, Brenda Kay Byers, brother, William Byers, sisters, Rosalee Proniske, and Archena Andricks, half-sisters, Neva Hadley, and May Mae, half-brother, Burl Byers, grandson, Paul Hoff, and great grandson, Jamie Lee Baughman.
He is survived by his son, John Smith (Jennifer), daughters, Florence Carpenter (Terry), Faith Byers, Josephine McEndree (Halbert), Janet Boley, and Charlotte Westbrook (Don), sister, Irene Martin, half-brother, Eddie Byers, grandchildren, Christopher Carpenter, Loretta Reesman, Robin Carpenter, Timothy Carpenter, Shane Carpenter, Matthew Carpenter, Jessica Holt, Stephanie Baughman, Jason Stollar, Christina Starcher, Denver Starcher Jr., Matthew McEndree, Christopher McEndree, Starlett Hardman, Nicole Smith, Casey Leigh Smith, Mark Hoff, Martha Boley, Sarah Owens, Elizabeth Hoff, and Mike Reesman, 30 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, and his companion of 16 years, Rose Reesman, along with several nieces and nephews.
Service will be Sunday, April 15, 2012, 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Shawn Law officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home, and from 9am til the time of the service on Sunday.
