

He was born June 22, 1943 in Parkersburg to George and Merle Charlton, one of 7 children. Both parents died young.
Chuck was preceded in death by both his parents, his Grandmother, Alice Spires who raised him, his wife Barbara and his only son, Greg, as well as brothers Morgan and George (Bunk) and sister Mary Lou (Liza).
Chuck retired from the Parkersburg News and Sentinel after nearly 50 years there. He began there at age 14 rolling newspapers and retired as Pressroom Manager.
Chuck is survived by two sisters, Norma Bailey and Shirley Webster (husband Jack) and brother, Tom (wife Mary) a large extnded family of many inlaws who loved him dearly and considered him family. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Doug and Sherry West who were honored to help him move back from Florida and loved him like a Father.
Chuck was known to his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, for giving good advice, playing the role of surrogate Dad, and helping them in whatever projects they took on. He was an absolutely selfless man.
In his illness, Chuck's heart continued to be healthy and strong. Some said it was because he exercised it so well by how deeply he loved his family and friends.
He married Barbara Ann Rhodes and they had one son, Gregory and were married for almost 45 years, until Barb's and Greg's death in 2006.
Chuck moved to Florida after Greg's death. He lived at Daytona Beach for nearly 10 years where he made many special friends and developed a love for karaoke with his sister, Norma. Chuck said anytime he was depressed, he just sang until he wasn't depressed anymore. He especially loved hosting his West Virginia family and introducing them to his Florida friends.
Chuck was much loved by all who knew him. He was known for his beautiful smile and sweet laugh and was able to keep him smiling even through the sadness he carried in losing both Barb and Greg.
