Evert Lee Whitlatch, 87, of Parkersburg, passed away May 25, 2011 at Ohio Valley Health Care.
He was born July 9, 1923 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Allison E. and Blanche Stump Whitlatch. Evert graduated from PHS in 1940, was a member of the Rosemar United Methodist Church, and he retired from DuPont after 27 years and four months as a mechanic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in both WWII and Korea, a member of the Boy Scouts for 49 years where he received the Silver Beaver award, certified UMC Lay speaker where he received the Cross and Flame Award, and he was an avid stamp collector.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Whitlatch; three step-sons, Ronald W. Showalter of Parkersburg, Donald L. Showalter of Vienna, and Mark E. Showalter of Lexington, KY; three grandsons, Jason A. Showalter of Vienna, Philip C. Showalter of Parkersburg, and Brian P. Showalter, also of Vienna; one brother, James (Cloeanna) Whitlatch of Walker, WV; one sister, Anna Sutton of Vienna; one niece; and four nephews.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Parkersburg, with Rev. Danny McVey and Robert Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
