

James Simmie Scott, Sr., 79, of Parkersburg, passed away Jan. 31, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Sep. 18, 1931 in Essex County, VA, a son of the late George Henry and Mabel Ruth Richard Scott. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea, a member of the American Legion Post 104, Mountain State Lodge 117, IBPOE of WV, Mountain State Associate, Roderandum Post 1034, and the Bethel AME Church, Parkersburg, where he was the Treasurer of the Trustee Board, the Usher Board, the Lay Organization, Choir, and Trustee Emeretus.
He is survived by his wife, Rose (Lee) Scott; one son, James S. Scott, Jr. of Belpre; three daughters, Summer L. Scott and Aloha R. (Greg) Lambert, all of Parkersburg, and Dora Johnson of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandchildren, William C., Elijah N., and Tatyana R. Lambert, Anessa L. and Liliana R. Starcher; one sister, Ellen Johnson of Fredericksburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Tyrek K. Starcher; five brothers, Richard, Lynwood, Dover, and Samuel Scott and an infant brother; and five sisters, Ethal Banks, Gertrude Gaines, Beatrice Thornton, Frances Wright, and Ruth Scott.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Deborah J. Watt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
