John was born October 6, 1929 in Marietta, OH to John J. and Dorothy E. {Weihl} Atkinson.
John was known for his selflessness and cared for the needs of his extended family. He was a supervisor/consultant at Ames Company for 18 years.
John will be deeply missed by his sons, Scott Clinton Atkinson, Steven Allen (Gail) Atkinson, Randall Jay (Susan) Atkinson, daughters, Tanya Marie (Ken) Matsuda, Lori Lynnette (Rocky) Palombo, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 67 years, Velma and sister, Betty Atkinson.
Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Lay Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
