Mamie M. Dawson

("absent from the body...present with the Lord," 2Cor.5:8)

Mamie was born June 26, 1926 at Spencer, WV, to parents, Henry Clay and Mae Parrill. Most of her childhood was spent in Calhoun Co. and later in Roane Co. During WWII, she contributed to the civilian war effort while employed at Curtis Wright Defense Plant in Columbus, Ohio (a Rosie Riveter). On April 18, 1947, she married John Dawson and together they raised two children. She was a Christian and had earlier attended Edgelawn UM Church. She was dearly loved by family and friends and was a wonderful giver of hugs.

Surviving are: Daughter, Sandra Sullivan and husband, Thomas, of Washington, WV; son, Rick Dawson and wife, Cynthia of Washington, WV; granddaughters, Mary Tinnel (Robert), Lisa Roberts (Michael), Vicki Baker (Michael), and Ann Lambert (Joseph), step-grandson Don Morris; great-grandsons: Aidan, Carrick, and Truman Roberts, Nicholas and Jacob Lemon, Tristen and Conner Tinnel, Elliot and Seth Lambert, and Jameson Baker; sisters-in-law, Edna Mason, Carolyn Elza (James), and several nieces and nephews..

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2016 by her Husband of 68 years, John Dawson, daughter-in-law, Wanda Dawson; step grandson, Doug Morris; sisters Blanche Whysell, Opal Kerby, Joan Henthorne, Nina Cassady, Kathleen Gainer, and brothers, Raymond Parrill, Clay Parrill, and Dick Parrill.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 26 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1934 Dupont Rd., Parkersburg. Pastor Chris Hunt will officiate.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30 am to noon. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Moses for his fine, compassionate medical care during Mamie's time in hospice as well as in the many years prior... Our heartfelt thanks to Adoration Hospice nurse, Robyn Betts, aide Jayden, and each and every hospice nurse and the aide for their kindness and to hospice Chaplin Chris Hunt whose visits meant so much to Mamie. Also our sincere appreciation to members of Wyngate Assisted Living staff who provided loving care and comfort. There have been too many to mention individually during these past years, but each of you have been appreciated.

The family also extends thanks to all who sent cards or shared a visit, call, smile, hug or prayer with Mamie. You made a difference because on life's journey, we are all "just walking each other Home."
